I will admit that i will be very careful when leaving feedback when buying things off ebay now. I will not mark them down unlessi have very good reason.
I don't think people realise that by giving four stars they can deamage a sellers reputation so much.
I have been in touch with ebay and they say tough, i can not sell on there any more but i can buy!
They said that they sent me an email in December giving me a warning. I never recieved this email and have asked them for !!!!!! of this but they can not give me any, they just say that all there emails get through and i must be lying as i would have recieved it!
Thanks for all your replys but i think me and ebay are done with now!
I will have to find another way of getting rid of my wonderful [STRIKE]carp[/STRIKE] sorry exciting treasures!:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -
I have just checked my stars and someone has given me a single star for dispatch time. I have always sent the items the following day. As a new seller with low feedback it is really affecting my average. Seems really unfair that you cannot find out who gave you the poor rating.0

I will admit i did not really take much notice of the stars untill yesterday!:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -
Have to admit that now I will also be more careful in my feedback star rating.
I normally only charge the stamp rate when posting and estimate as best I can when using standard parcels.
I once over charged by £1.20 and worried for days on whether I should offer a refund or not. Luckily the buyer was happy with her purchase and left great feedback....but then she could have marked me down in stars and I would never have known...
My stars are 4.9/5 for the 1st 3 and 4.8/5 for P+P.
As I charge only the stamp value(usually 2nd class ), reuse packaging whenever possible and don't charge for pretty poly self seal envelopes when I actually buy packaging supplies (from ebay) I'm not sure what else I can do to protect myself from less than 5 star ratings...Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D
Every day is a new challenge not a new problem!:p

4.3/5 wouldn't be classed as bad provided the majority of other sellers had a similar rating.
However, 4.3/5 would be considered very poor if 95% of other sellers scored 4.8 or higher out of 5.0 -

i find the star rating system rather bizare but hey such is life. This is what ebay now base their sellers on!:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -
The problem here is that once again a seller is not aware of the expanded part of the star ratings system, until it's too late. Ebay are very good at pestering us with offers - would an email about stars be too much to ask?
I was proud all of my stars were above 4.6 until, a recieved a warning from Ebay saying it was not good enough. 4.6/5 - thats good in most star systems on the internet. Only then did i know if you clicked on your rating - you got more info about 1's and 2's etc. There was nothing saying click here.
Nine months of free postage AND posting next day later, and my acount is still below standard (it briefly went standard). My stars are all above 4.9 - and i have had no 1's or 2's for over 9 months and no negatives or neutrals. Ebay are nuts - simple.
In 5 days my account goes back standard for good - as the last of the low ratings drop off. But the whole thing as just been a money making excercise for ebay - as i have been unable to charge any postage and ebay have got more fees back.
One thing i do find strange - is why are some people just thrown off - but i was given a warning and allowed to continue? Op - did you not get the warning? Once recieved - the account must improve month on month. I suppose i should say ebay have been fair with me on that point. But if you don't sell a lot of items - it can be very difficult getting your account back on track.
Update - just seen your post saying ebay say they emailed you. That message would have been emailed AND put in your messages on ebay. Once that was received - the only option is to post next day and offer free postage. All it takes is one rogue buyer giving you a low postage rating, and your back in trouble. It looks like the 4.3 was the killer - mine have never been below 4.6. Also, more than one buyer claiming item unwashed AND a buyer had to open a claim for item not as described. Was it really worth refusing a refund and losing the abilty to sell on ebay - as it all goes againt you in the end?0 -

I did not refuse to refund. I asked her to return the item and told her i would refund in full which she refused to do and reported me to ebay. Ebay looked into it and refunded her in a no fault claim!:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -

I see. Some just hope you will let them keep it - as they have you over a barrel.
As i said - i cannot believe ebay don't warn people of the stars much earlier. By the time they do let you know - things are already bad. Overall - your feedback looks OK. But as someone said - compared to others - your stars leave a lot to be desired. But you probably thought that out of 5 - they looked fine. But unkown to you - you were getting too many 1's and 2's. When you see the scammers making a mint on ebay - it still seems odd that someone is thrown off when they are a genuine seller.0 -
Maybe a popup when a buyer leaves stars? Buyer thinks 4 stars they were good but maybe they could do better?
I buy 2 or moe items on the same day, Everything arrives next day except one, The 1st batch get 5 and the one
that arrived a day later obviously could have done better (maybe?). They get 4. A good score we think.
Pop to alert buyers, Leaving 4 stars in this category could get this seller blocked from selling more items......
I bet that would open a few peoples eye's.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
