The Peacocks in the Bloomfield Centre (Bangor) only opened before Christmas! It was a new construction too rather than a fit out of an existing unit...makes you wonder about the sanity of decision makers!0 -
marcowil - there sure is, and there's also on street parking, which they started charging for last year, at the same time that retailers were crying out for business, and protesting about John Lewis trying to build a store (or actually the number of other stores coming along) at Sprucefield. But as Fathero3 says, you can park at Sprucefield, with a good choice of shops, for free.0

I have heard that the whole Flagship Centre is to be closed altogether!
What with the shambolic joke that is Bangor seafront and the total lack of any decent shops, Bangor has become an embarrassments!0 -
I blame the councils for the cities and town’s being empty of shops. 20 years ago I would have done some shopping in Carrickfergus centre, now I wouldn’t do near it unless I had to use the bank or hair dressers.
We run a successful online business and I would love to open a shop as well, however we have priced this out a few times over the last 5 years and to be honest the rates businesses have to pay are silly money (usually more than the rent being charged) and make it a non starter.
Lots of shop units sitting empty due to this reason and not going to change anytime soon. It costs me a fraction of the cost to do business on the internet than it would be to do business from a shop.
So my thoughts would be to give new business 2 – 3 years rates free then a teared system of rates to get people into the units and also stop selling of the car parks so that free parking can be provided.
Businesses need to be encouraged to return and provide jobs and income to the towns so councils have to stop bleeding them dry!!!0 -

Would not surprise me about the Flagship. Where did you hear this, or is it just a rumour?0 -
Just read in North Down & Ards Com Tele that the co-op in the flagship is closing too, although it is moving to smaller premises (the old Bon Marche store).0

Heard the Co-Op is moving into the old Woodside building.0

No mention of a breeze whistling through the empty shops.0
