British Gas press release here

BG price increase 16% 6 months ago - so a 5% drop is hardly anything0

No gas price cut?
From the press releaseWhy haven’t you reduced gas prices as well?
British Gas serves half the homes in Britain. We have to buy energy in advance to protect our customers against any sharp spikes in prices – like we saw last winter. While there have been some short-term falls in the cost of gas, the longer term trend continues to be upward.I came, I saw, I melted0 -

Exactly!!
Now that they have raked it in over the winter period, albeit not as much as they had hoped due to the milder winter we had, this is nothing more than a positive PR stunt.

Obviously it's a double dip publicity stunt.
In a few weeks, BG will announce a gas price drop, but effective after winter is finished.0 -
No reduction on gas, and elect 5% reduction not applicable to dual fuel users. Is that correct?0

This.
I also love how MSE spent months (years?) telling us all to switch and join fixed tariffs...which won't benefit from any cuts.0 -
i switched last year to EDF 2014 - which is still 10% cheaper than the post cut gas price... for the next 2 1/2 years!0
