Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 12th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Yesterday went exactly as I expected, total chaos, most people totally confused by the new system! I discovered that I can only use one machine at a time, instead of all 3 at once, this means it would take me 3 days to do what I normally do in 1 day. I contacted the installers, it seems that this is the first time they have come across one person manning 3 machines plus 2 remote machines, I find that hard to believe! I will have to wear 3 ID cards, lovely, I shall end up hunchbacked!
Yesterday I was very virtous & darned a pile of hubby's socks before I started on a tapestry I'm doing. He's gradually getting used to his new job, it's been agreed that when he's on the day shift he can do 7:30 til 3:30, same hours as I do,to make it easier for us to travel together & save petrol.
Tea today is leftover beef from Christmas.
Have a good dday everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Morning Hester and those who come after!

It's a busy day here today - got slimming class this morning, Dr appt this afternoon, pet sitting at tea time and then Mr S is going to delivery the big monthly shop in the evening. I'm making the most of this quiet time before I take a deep breath and plunge in!

Hope everyone else has a peaceful and OS day.

  • Good morning everyone.
Hester, it sounds like you had a nightmare of a day yesterday.
DS has gone off to work. I'm the only one up at the moment, so enjoying a cuppa before the mad rush!
WM is on. Chicken pieces are out for tea tonight, not quite sure what to do with them as yet.
Hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning all,

Seems very cold here today, have put the fire on for a blast of heat, lets hope its not winter arriving.

Work today so minimum os, will do a wash when i get in tonight, dinner will be Ham (left over from xmas) egg and chips (only a few chips for me).

Also have a sainsbugs delivery coming tonight, so that will need putting away.

I have 10 items ending on ebay tomorrow, I hope to make a good profit, I have to save £1300.00 for dd's college trip next year, and its making things very tight, so I am trying to raise most of it on Ebay :T

    Ok have good days all.

Lamewolf how are you doing ? xx

Morning all, colder here today, there is a very brisk wind . At least it made me walk faster with the dog this morning so hopefully will have burned a few calories. Eating my porridge then off to school, dinner tonight is chicken stir- fry. Need to go to L***l if I get home in time as dog is running short on kibble.
Hope you have a less stressful day HH and that everyone else has a good day. Hugs to all who need them.
Good luck today JG hope it does the trick.

Very chilly here this morning as well and still really dark although I have noticed it getting lighter in the evenings.

Tea tonight will be something vegetarian. probably from Hugh's book.

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dry and quite mild here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early. Dinner last night was the LO roast beef from Sunday, cooked it in a pot of gravy, had mash, veg and yorkshires with it - lovely!

Fence now all finished and I'm really pleased with the job, they've been paid and I'm happy - more so because we're sorted before we go away tomorrow.

Friend came over yesterday with her son, had lots of coffee and chat - think I've managed to persuade her to let me go to help her tackle her kitchen on Monday - she used to be so house-proud I can honestly say I would have eaten off her floors - she has completely lost control of the household chores etc and there's "stuff - toys, clothes, food - everything" all over the house, there's literally a clear path (approx a foot wide to walk through the front room and into the kitchen) but there's piles of stuff everywhere it's stacked against the walls, and in several places is well over 6ft, in the kitchen she can't possibly cook anything properly because I couldn't find the halogen hob! I went to help her about a year ago and we made a good job of the kitchen and it was much better but if the truth be known I think it's worse now but at least yesterday she did actually say "I really need to do something about the house" hoping we may have turned a corner. I think it's now so bad she just doesn't know where to start - and believe me it is bad, having been such good friends for so many years I can't believe they are now living like this. She's really packed on lots of weight around 6 stone and doesn't bother with herself at all. I hope I can support her as there's alot of other problems too.

On the OS side, will be doing all the normal Friday chores today as we're going away in the morning for the weekend, am very much looking forward to it, be nice to have a break. Will be heading to the hairdressers shortly, then the bank, food shopping, then home to wash, dry and iron, then pack and if I get time will do some housework but house not too bad and I'm using up the last of my holiday for this year so am not back at work until 23 Jan - so can do housework next week.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Morning All. Been mia for a few days, but back now! Have just cleared out my two fridges (silly little under counter number in the kitchen, decent sized effort out in garage). Am I the inly one who manages to find far too much stuff to throw out? I'm talking rotten bits of salad stuff, tiny manky bits of cheese, jars with some science experiment at the bottom...etc. Always so ashamed of myself, but just the same next time. (hangs head in deep shame)
JG, you must be getting a wee bit fed up by now, but it can't be much longer!
Hester, the new system sounds a nightmare!
have fallen under the spell of a large jigsaw on the dining table this week - every time I go in I stay too long adding just a few more pieces! Very relaxing though!
Sat down yesterday and really went through all the finances...not too good, so really need to be ultra-careful now. Knew it wasn't going to be good, but have rather put off getting it all together in one place and facing a few facts.
Oh well, need to put the kettle on for Dh's cuppa and then get myself organised for the day - paperwork looming large!
Hope you all have good days. take care of yourselves.

    Think twice before spending anything!
