How shocking this level of barrage.

If your on benefits you wont be pulled apart on your SOA, its more for the purpose of deciding a income payment award.
Well i wasnt in fact there was no mention by my examiner and it was pretty much thrown together anyway, and like you id just been laid off after 30 years of employment.

Obviously if you return back to work in the undischarged period then you may get a IPA and then you would have to supply a new SOA.

Sky and Orange can be defaulted on and placed into the BR, but many dont put these down but keep the contracts. Your not obliged to default its your choice but it would free up a few more pounds esp if your strugelling currently.
You would have difficulty if you did that prob getting sky again.

Is your rent being fully paid by housing benefit.

Id def seek some advise but its looks in my opinion as you are currently unemployed you are ripe for BR, ignore all the other statements that were not helpful thrown at you.

Also to those that have hit her hard, she could await for each creditor to get a CCJ and then go for a variation of 1 pound per month to each, as someone on benefit the judge would prob grant that , and then the creditors will never get paid. That is actually a option id also consider.
But for me BR has worked esp as someone not working, if i was working it would be more of a struggle with a IPA.
My unemployment fasttracked the decision to go or not go BR.

  • Val thank you for your comments, all positive and helpful :)
I will definately be checking out the OS boards, in fact have already started and am looking forward to making lots of changes, although it might initially be a challenge with 2 fussy eaters, but then we all have to make changes!

Excellent idea about not using the car other than school and contact weekends, gonna start that now :)

  • Sundays thank you so much for understanding :)

As I'm on benefits what is the likliehood of being made to contribute towads my debt?
Housing benefit local allowance is £564 so I have to add £186 each month to that as my rent is so high, so no it doesnt cover it.

Like you, now I am unemployed and not having any luck finding something new, this is what has finally made me take action, I dont want to be fighting debt for the next 17+ years, if I could pay it off I would, Ive tried, but it just cant be done right now:(

If your on benefits you shouldnt pay anything to the debt.

If your getting the full amount of LHA there is a rule that providing you didnt claim benefit for the 52 weeks pre the start date then you should receive the full amount of rent for 13 weeks then it should reduce to the LHA rates, if you havent received it and this applies contact your housing benefit team as they should have picked up on that.

You can also apply for Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP), there is no right to it or appeal rights but you advise you have hardship which is due to being forced onto benefits from unemployment and are strugelling with the amount you need to contribute , they can award extra benefit, they will then review it and eventually bring it down, but its to ease you in - Again your housing benefit team will give you more infor.

But you must state your hardship is due to unemployment.

OP,I read your original post earlier today when I couldn't post and was shocked by the tone of some of the replies you received so I wanted to comment to you

I don't have experience of your situation but always go by the philosphy of there but for the grace of god go I

We none of us know what is round the corner and I take my hat off to you for facing your problems and arranging financial counselling with someone recommended by MSE

I would agree with the more helpful posts here that some of the other boards here will help you to make the most of the money you do have

    Regards S

    Who are CAP.
These are very common HB rules, just ring HB up in the am and say someone has asked you query this,
Dont lose time as you could end up being out of time and losing out.

Christians Against Poverty - I found their info from MSE and have an appointment with them on 25th to go thru all my finances and the BR procedure.
