Dorsetgirl;; your income is good - I don't know why I bother working when people can get loads of money by not working. I'm pointing something out that the poster may find negative but needs to understand.
What do I need to understand about this statement? I want to work and have been working!!!
wanttobefree; perhaps DFW is a better place for you?
Is there any chance of getting a 0% card to try and ease the c/c's a bit? If you had a good income before then your credit score should be ok? Unless the debts are as a result of being made redundant.
The CCCS have advised me that my only realistic option is to go BR.
Prescription/dental; are you not exempt from fees as a result of being unemployed/on benefits?
I have a long term cronic illness and the NHS doesnt fund the medication I need in order to be well, I have to buy it privately. If I dont take I simply cannot function on a daily basis.
I hope this answers your points."If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" - quote from Bambi's mum

That was aimed at dorsetgirl.
Is there any chance of taking him to court? Do you have any proof as such he has done you out of money and made you responsible for the debts?
Have you tried a womens shelter type charity for advice? I suspect since it was some time ago they won't be able to offer much help but might have some legal advice?
As for housing; are you not eligible for council housing at all?0 -

Because at the time I couldnt afford the fees my solicitor was charging and they didnt offer legal aid I had to sign an agreement that he took over all divorce costs in exchange for me not claiming money from him. His accountant is also his best friend and between them managed to put together a statement which showed he had no spare income, and despite my telling my solicitor this she advised me sign away my rights. In hindsight I should have sacked her there and then!! But whats done is done and now its too late.
Cant imagine what help a shelter could offer me at this stage, now we are away from him.
Council have told me we're "not priority", so that unfortunately not an option. I really am stuck with what to do with the house, not only is the rent and council tax high, but of course it impacts on heating costs etc too."If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" - quote from Bambi's mum

Walking 5 miles down country roads with fast cars and no pavements, not an option. And I still have to drive them to see their father every fortnight, cant walk down a motorway
Buses? cycling?
There always seems to be a 101 reasons why we all need a car but most of us don't TBH, it's just easier with a car
I'll put my hand up to that too but when I try to do without the car, it's wonderful
What would you do if - for some reason - you couldn't drive?
How would the kids get to their dad's place?0 -

I can personally understand not wanting to get rid of a car for all kinds of reasons, however in terms of petrol expenses; why can't the good for nothing chump pick his kids up? Why should you have to drive them there? I assume the £350 other income is his Cjild Maintenance but there's no law saying because he pays that that you have to take them to him is there?0 -
msfisco - there is no direct bus from where I live to the village their school is in. Cycling, too dangerous again on those roads.
If I didnt take them to meet their father he is unfortunately the kind of guy who would say, fine, he wont see them again, and thats not something I can allow to happen to them. I might hate their father but they love him and need him in their life."If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" - quote from Bambi's mum

Esoog - I dont drive them the whole way to his, we meet half way, I moved a long way away from him!! On the odd accaision when I havent been able to meet him, been ill for example, and have asked him to do the whole journey he has simply refused."If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" - quote from Bambi's mum

Oh and yes, the £350 is his child maintenance."If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" - quote from Bambi's mum

I don't know why I bother working.
Totally irrelevant, unhelpful and cantankerous. Read MSE forum etiquette if you can't abide by it do everyone a favour and move on.
WTBF – You need to cut down on sky, I would say get rid, you can telephone them and see if they will reduce it by 50% if not cancel it. If you do not need the car SORN it as long as you have a drive/garage. Grocery could be reduced; buy only offers and stock up on frozen offers where possible make home-made soups – cheap, filling and full of goodness. Presents will have to go, people will understand you just cannot afford. Buy Avon in place of designer and holidays will have to go on hold whilst on benefits. Instead try http://www.doitforreal.co.uk/ and send the kids for cheap, have a look into it.0 -
Thank you for your advice

The holiday I put in £20 because its a school trip for my daughter which I had already committed to before loosing my job, and its actually the first proper holiday she will have been on in her life, sadly we dont do holidays anyway.
I am only 6 months into my Sky contract, will they allow me to cancel it?
Groceries - Im going to have a look on the other forum for some saving ideas
