Opinions on Vauxhall Insignia please

Hi Everyone, I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I am after a new car I've decided on a Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 diesel hatchback Nav something or other :)

I am getting rid of my Jeep Patriot for this instead as I'm no longer happy with it.

The question is are they any good or if you have one have you had any problems?

Many Thanks

Steph

If you are buying new Steph then don't under any circumstances, pay the full list price. They don't have good residuals and you would want to get one at a big discount to allow for that.

The one I'm looking at is on a 11 plate with 16k miles on the clock with loads of extras for £13,500 which I didn't think was a bad price?

    Thanks

    Modern diesel = DPF.

Unless you do mega miles avoid the car.

I think they are similar to this one http://www.lookers.co.uk/vauxhall/used-cars/38968/vauxhall-insignia because I told him I wanted a diesel preferably manual but he is only getting automatics in which I'm not really that bothered about I can cope with it, he said so it would be the CDTI SRI Nav so it must be the same as the one in the link :)

I've never really drove a automatic before apart from 1 on a test drive years ago but it has to be easier than a manual I suppose. What does DPF stand for? I probably do around 10k miles a year maybe slightly more if I go away in the UK. My Jeep is on a 58 and never really had problems with the engine or anything, I did have a VW Eos before I got the Jeep on a 08 diesel again and the injectors were !!!!!!ed within 18 months I bought it from brand new and it wasn't anything to do with my driving as I had only done 9k miles on it :(

I've looked online and it would probably use the same amount of fuel as the Jeep currently does I just want a change really.

    Thanks for your help

There are some 11-plate petrol 1.8 (Manual) Insignia Navs (SRi) on Motorpoint at the 11k-11.5k mark, may be worth a look:

As for DPF - that's the diesel particulate filter and Honest John has a good description here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/diesel-particulate-filters/

The automatic will be a lot less economical than the manual which means the road tax will cost more. The difference on the combined cycle is about 6mpg. If you look for one of the ecoflex models they are in the £30 a year road tax band. The SRi auto is in the £130 a year road tax band.

The price seems reasonable enough, given that the new list price is £27k according to the Vauxhall website.

Have you had a play around with the Network Q site Steph? It will give you some idea of what the cars are going for in the different specs.

No I haven't yet I'll check it out now. Tbh the road tax on the Jeep is £210 so it's still cheaper in that sense. The insurance is cheaper too for some reason maybe it's because I turned 25 last year but already had my car insurance :)

I wouldn't give up a Jeep and buy a Vauxhall! But that's just my personal opinion based on my experience of Vauxhalls I've owned and driven recently. Not going to discuss it further - just my 2p.
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!
  • Thanks Honeydog, I've had the Jeep 2 years now and since it went out of warranty I've had nothing but problems one found whilst on it's first MOT the lower ball joint and suspension arm had to be replaced costing me around £600 plus labour, I was without the car for the best part of a week because it took them 3 days to source the part for it. I need my car every day for the type of work I do so being without it was a right pain in the backside, So I thought I would go for a more common make in this country so it would be easier to source the parts therefore me having my car back pretty quickly.

The other problem I've experienced with the car is that I unlocked it went to open the passenger door it wouldn't open I ripped the interior off to see what was wrong couldn't see anything put it all back together went back inside came back out 10 minutes later unlocked it and it worked so I don't have a clue what was wrong with it so I want to get rid of it now before anything else goes wrong with it you see.
