OP - they may well sanction you if they can prove you could have got to work using public transport. If you just rejected the job without checking whether there was an alternative to driving, you may well be in trouble.0

No problem then because my local bus doesn't start until 8 am and the job started at 8:30am.0 -

Well the job was back in october so has gone now anyway. I have just moved after a divorce and was promised a job which is why i moved here.
Then the company decided it couldn't afford to take me on due to the financial meltdown etc so i'm left in a right pickle with no cash to move...0 -
Rough Outgoings
Rent = £550
CTax = £100
TV License = £13
Car Ins = £30
Phone / Internet = £30
Food = £120
Electric = £40
If the job was closer it wouldn't be a problem but with a £400 a month petrol bill it just wouldn't work
I take it you are not keen on moving to take up a job and make savings with the transport? Like others, I can see your budget is a struggle due to the transport costs and know that people face many constraints moving properties but it's a shame to turn down a potential opportunity that could springboard into much higher pay in the future.
Download the MSE budget planner to produce a thorough budget - it will prompt you for items you may have missed by rolling up individual expenses into 'etc', like water bill (if England or Wales), social expenses, haircuts, contents insurance, etc.0 -
I think it is a shame to turn down a job but I agree with you! I would not do 100 mile round trip with todays petrol prices I do 22 miles round trip and think that is alot! Just say you no longer have acess to a car they should be OK. one of the things when I signed on a few years ago was I cut the options on the form they gave me as they will try and palm unrealistic jobs on you.EVERYTIME YOU THANK MY POSTS A PUPPY DIES!
TAXPAYERS CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP YOU ANYMORE GET A JOB!0 -

But you will be paying all the above now with the exception of the top two.
So =£233 per mnth outgoings already single jsa £270?
Are you single? If so are you getting full HB and CB?
What about water, gas and petrol or travel expenses now?
You will declare your reasons and those reason will be sent to a DM, they will look at all the factors before deciding, so yes you may be sanctioned.0 -
Just about 2 gallons of petrol = £12.50.
100 miles - £25.00 a day x 23 working days a month = £575.00
The poster seems to have a more economical car!!!
You seem to have doubled up.
If 100 miles = £25 a day at £6.25 per gallon, are you expecting just 25 mpg?
OP seems to be expecting about 36mpg, not unrealistic, depending on vehicle.
(100 miles x 23 days = 2300 miles ; 2300 / 36 mpg = 64 gallons ; 64 x £6.25 = £400)0
