Help - Salary won't cover bills

Hi
I applied for a job though job centre plus in october last year. The salary turned out to be lower than i thought.
The job was 50 miles away so a round trip of 100 miles a day so about £20 a day so £400 each month on fuel !
When i realised that the salary income wouldn't cover my outgoings i explained to the employer i couldn't proceed.
Anyway yesterday Job Centre plus phoned me asking why i hadn't gone ahead and attended the interview.
I'm worried they will stop my JSA. Can they really expect you to take a job that doesn't pay enough to live on because of the expense of getting to it ?
Any advice gratefully excepted
Cheers

Wish I knew some good advice for you on this one. Having none, I just wanted to wish you good luck in getting this sorted!0

After having worked out my outgoings and income from the position had i been successful i would have been left with having to find £150 a month !0
-
I would pop onto the DFW board and post a Statement of Affairs - they always have loads of advice on there on how to reduce your outgoings.Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.0

Maybe what the poster is saying is that he will be £150 a month WORSE off by working than staying on benefits.
This is quite possible. What gets me from what I read, is that the government don't care about this as long as they aren't claiming benefits.
The Jobcentre should have looked into this with the claimant before suggesting they go for the job. No point in making your finances worse by working.0 -
Are you sure you worked it out properly, counted what benefits you might still have been entitled to claim? Surely before declining the ofer of the interview, you should have discuss this with the Job Centre. You might have found you hadn't budgeted properly.
I think the fact you decided not to bother to even show up might result in a sanction. After all, who says you couldn't have negotiated a better salary if offered the job.0 -
Hi
Outgoings Rent Ctax etc
£900 per month
fuel cost to go to the job and back home
£400 per month
Total Cost = £1300
Salary offered
£1200 per month
So i would have to pay at least £100 per month to work there ! Where does that money come from...

Was the £1200 per month pre tax/NIC?0
-
Nope thats take home after Tax and NIC
If they sanction me for not taking a job that would cost me more than i would be getting paid then so be it as theres obviously no way to win an argument with the insane rule makers

Anything else coming into the household? Did you explore whether you'd be entitled to HB/CTB or tax credits? Are you living in a property suitable for your needs? £1,200 a month take home, while not riches, is an OK wage.0
-
What would be insane is allowing people to reject jobs paying £16,000 plus a year and keep benefits.
You say your outgoings....Rent, CT etc are £900 per month. What does the etc include?0
