Things like this, as well as insurance companies never paying out enough to actually replace your car after a write off, are probably part of the reason why so many people are claiming whiplash these days.

Sounds horrible but the same think happened to my husband.

I small child ran out in front of parked cars. All the witness's everyone the police included commended him for acting so quickly, ( I froze- horrible horrible ) and thank god the child was ok and is alive an well to tell the tale.

After the first shock ( my husband could not drive for months we even had to change the car) we thought that 12 months later all would be ok but our motor insurance went up by nearly 50 %. It has only just started to go down and it is nearly 6 years later.

We found out later that the child's mother had nearly 8 months later put in a claim for the accident and tried to claim over £50,000. Don't know what she got if anything but really sad as I think she was trying to profit from the accident.

So I know how you feel :A

  • My insurance premimums are £50 a month more thn they should be at the moment because of an open case, I am 100% convinced, as is everyone else I have spoken to that I am not at fault but I'm worried that they will just put it down as split liability. I will have to give up my car if that is the case.
    Insurance companies are dodgy, propa.

I think you may be confusing "fault" with Liability, you may not be liable, but it always takes two to tango and that is what insurance companies work on.
    Bas%^&*s !

Spot on, it's a no claim bonus not a no blame bonus.

Somebody hit my car last year, for which they accepted total fault, and their insurance company paid up for repairs to my car.

I've just gone to renew my car insurance and the premium went up by £80, when I answered their question about 'any claims, regardless of fault in the past 3 years'. I did not make any claim on my insurance, the other party claimed.

How is this increase fair? It is all agreed it was not my fault. Has anybody found any way to get around this? I am outraged!

    Thanks, Sarah

Did you shop around for insurance.
Renewals are normally dearer than most prices elsewhere.

Was that directed at me or the OP?
This is what I am worrying about, if this goes down as my fault or split liabilty I am !!!!!!ed!
I will be really cross because he was totally at fault
  • I agree with the comment regarding no fault vs fault claims. My Audi A6 was stolen so we made a claim. We were paid out £10k and my premiums went up about £80 the following year.

A friend smashed his car into someone elses as he was not paying attention and I could not believe it when his renewal came through £15 per year more than he previously paid. He was driving a c class coupe, which was not cheap.

My insurance company told me on the phone when I queried my renewal that because I had made a claim, I was more likely to claim in the future.
Nothing I would say would change this. I had been with them (Norwich union at the time) for about 6 years. Loyalty means nothing these days. I shopped around and got a discount with the claim listed of 20% on my previous premiuim.

Something to think about next time your brake testing someone and thinking "hehehe, it'll be all his fault".

Insurance generally goes up by around £100 per non-fault claim on a rolling 5 year basis.

I've checked mine with a non fault accident, it makes no difference.
(I always get a new quote though, I never go with the renewal)
I'd still make on the whiplash claim anyway.
  • I am absolutely infuriated!

I had an accident with a known telecom van, he hit me at the back of the car while i was stationary at a roundabout. he of course took liability and BT suggested we did everything without involving my insurance company. I said yes, they compensated me for car damages and I am still waiting for whiplash injuries compensation.

    now the fun part starts,
I tried to find the cheapest insurance policy online and spent about 4 hours. I found Admiral was the cheapest so I try to pay online a fee of 550 but payment had trouble processing so I call them up and customer service says: you have an accident on your name which you did not disclose on the online form. and i said, how do you know this since i never made any claims, i was not liable for the accident and since the insurance of the one to blame told me that my insurance would not be affected if i chose to not involve my insurance company??? and she said its on our system. Now, i got really !!!!ed when she told me the exact amount that the blamable's insurance quoted as compensation for my car damages. Then she said, i am afraid that the price will now be 620. I said can you justify the reason for this?If you have no proof that i am prone to cause an accident how can you justify your increase in price and she said, well im afraid that this is how it works.

This gets a bit more complicated. The Bblamable's insurance is in breach of non written promise as they asked me to take the matter outside of insurances and make an amicable settlement without the incident ever being recorded. because of their stupidity or whatever you'd call that, i am now expected to pay money that i should not really have to pay.-for 5 years!!!!!

isn't there a watchdog for these scams called insurance providers?they are acting fraudulently and uncontrollably.

just for the record, I absolutely hate insurance companies. they are the biggest liars and cheaters of all kind.:mad::mad:
