I'm sorry I haven't posted in this thread for a while but I'm struggling a bit (as the readers of my diary will know)
Hopefully, I'll get back to 'supportive/positive' soon and be a bit more help.

Oh BR, its horrible when you're feeling down. I had to leave the thread for about a year because I was winding myself up so much (prone to depression which doesn't help). Hope you're feeling better soon. !!

  • Ah, well, sigh, stamp feet, shrug, sigh!

As stated at some earlier point, I rang up Moorcroft now I have some time off work. I could not make any sense of the statement they sent me and I was not sure if they had frozen interest and stopped charges. They bought a batch of the Egg loans, of which mine was one; it was not in a DMP or arrears at the time, it was simply a loan. Well one month later it was in my DMP, all £500:o

So, since you have probably already guessed I shall put you out of your misery and confirm that interest is still being charged and it is in fact increasing by about £10 a month.

To be fair the gentlemen I spoke to was very nice. He observed that I was in a DMP with Payplan and told me my balance.

"oh" said I, "are you still adding interest and / or charges then?"

"yes, we are charging interest as you have not asked us to stop doing so":rotfl:

I think this response left me about speechless:rotfl: I mean seriously! Should it not be obvious that I want it stopping! If he had argued and said that they are not obligated to do so then I would have been prepared and ready to argue, send template letters, etc. I know they do not have to. But his response absolutely through me!

So, now I wait for them to respond to my verbal request to freeze interest. I shall give them 14 days then I start the 'polite' letter.

    Haven't asked them indeed:rotfl:

It's not often I am lost for words, but that did actually make me gobsmacked!
I'm still waiting for a response to my letter to Natwest - the only creditor still charging me interest 2 years down the line.

Money is still tight so not resorted to lighting the fire with fivers yet :D , but a fantastic feeling to look the monthly pay slip and know it's paying for a home, heat, food, fuel, etc and and NOT debt/ interest payments.
Becoming more parsimonious with every month now that it's 'real' money - 'I'm not paying that, for that rubbish!' type thing.
Still think of you all and pop back to read how you are doing.
I'm keeping the champagne on ice for you - hope you all keep your finish line in sight. It's a wonderful feeling to be here.

    'Twitty'

Aaah Twitty you are an inspiration to us all :)

Another inspiration SAAC. You will be pleased to know that the carrier bag filing system is in the process of being *sorted*, and the filing cabinet being put to good use again. I must say it is nice being able to find stuff when I need it :rotfl:

It is also a strangely weird (but again nice) feeling to be organised and on top of things. I didn't realise how much it affects the head space when everything around you is in a mess and cluttered.

Debt free date 25/11/2015 - Made It!
  • Hi

I'm considering this route - I have less than £15000 debt. I know this affects credit score, but think mine isn't too great anyway! I'm making minimums and a bit more sometimes but struggling. What happens if a creditor refuses to freeze interest? Can they demand you pay in full or anything like that? Do ALL debts have to go through payplan? I'm a member of a credit union and would like to keep that separate if possible (owe them a loan and they are reasonable anyway).

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Hello and welcome!

If you're unsure then complete the money thing on CCCS https://debtremedy.cccs.co.uk/start.aspx, or have a look on the moneysavingexpert website for a calculator too.

All unsecured debts must go through a DMP company (generally PayPlan or CCCS), only secured debts can be paid separately. This is no time for loyalty unfortunately, and you must show fairness to all creditors.

Hi Everyone, Just a quick check in. My DMP is going pretty well although there are some debts which never seem to go down. I've got a couple which are nearly paid off altogether so I'll be glad when they're gone and they're share can be given to other creditors.

After 4 years on my plan with CCCS I've nearly halved my debt!! With a debt free date of 2016 now, it seems much more manageable and within reach. I thought I'd never see the light at the end of the tunnel but I'm getting there.

Just thought a bit of positivity might be helpful for some newbies here.

    :)

I never get statements off Natwest, I haven't for 4 years but they're still charging me interest. I think a letter to the FOS is in order as I've asked for statements but never get them. I wish they'd just send my debt to a deby collector and be done with it. They use debt collectors as a scare tactic but I'm really not scared and would rather they dealt with it now than Natwest.

    :)

Well done :T That 50% paid can't be far off now and that's a huge milestone :j

We are still newbies and last week made our 3rd payment to CCCS. The first payment made almost no impact as interest and added unpaid and overlimit charges were horrendous. The 2nd payment took us to 2.3% paid and we estimate that this month's 3rd payment should get us to 4.2% paid.

We work every day at getting NatWest, Lloyds TSB and M&S to stop, or at least reduce, the interest. From what we have read here, we are not optimistic, particularly about the first two, but it won't stop us trying :)
