  • Lovely to see you posting Twitty? How is life treating you?

    HHx

Thank you HH. Life treats me well. Still not a Euromillions winner (being of a 'certain age' I keep wondering if I inadvertantly wandered down to Stevenage from North Yorkshire to buy THAT lottery ticket, then forgot all about it.....:o)
Still managing on my low income, so 'the budget' is not just something that you have to work out for your dept management company. And I must admit my former DMP payment (£85 per month) soon seems to have been swallowed up. Like so many folk (and you all on a DMP especially) it becomes more difficult day by day in the current 'austere' times to make the dosh go round.
But the HUGE difference is that it's my dosh. :) What a wonderful feeling knowing you don't owe money to anybody! Sometimes I sail pretty close to the wind, not having any reserves as such but there really is a lesson learnt from a DMP.
I'm proud I manage and can juggle my finances. It's an ongoing project (doesn't finish the day you are debt free) but a grand feeling nevertheless.
One day all of you here will be debt free too. Difficult to imagine if you are just starting off, but one day, that day will be yours.
And as one of the other posters said - everybody is very close to going under. Be proud to be swimming up! (and don't feel envious of your neighbours BMW/ holiday in the Bahamas/ new fitted kitchen - the poop is just waiting to hit their fan!)
(Sorry HH - went off on one again there didn't I? :o)

Hellooo Twitty, how lovely to see you! Hope you are well and enjoying your debt free life. Your posts always made me laugh, we've missed you!

    Thank you so much Growurown
Don't tell anyone, but if I'm honest I miss being here. I belonged to this 'secret club' on a DMP; full of lovely people helping to keep each other afloat and give good advice. :T
Now about this 'Growurown' business - I planted a fiver in compost 6 months ago but now I've lost interest (!):rotfl:

  • Hello Twitty :hello:

Lovely to see you and hope you have a super Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

I will be eternally grateful for all the advice, help and support offered to me on this thread :T

    TTFTM x

And a big hello to you too!
I did read the thread for quite a while after my DMP finished, but please do tell -
Ian I know was hoping to do F + Fs. I presume all went well for him and his DMP is now at an end?
And what of 'The Tooth Fairy?' Does she still flit by?
(And as for advice and support seems to me you and others are giving generously and unstintingly) :T

    Hey Debtdawg,

Unfortunately life is like that at times.... We have become pretty good at fixing things - which is not always the best option but it has saved us some cash over the years. Things will get better though.
Strange thing is - me and OH are closer than ever due to the money situation, the hardest thing is peer pressure, to begin with we got envious of other peoples presents, holidays etc. But most people are only one month away from the situation we are all in on this forum. I don't know anyone who isn't in debt to some degree. Its just that they have their heads above the water a little bit more than us.

What a heartwarming post. It's great you and OH are working together through this. No need to be envious. AS ML :money: says - OK if you can afford it (but get the best value.) NO,no if you can't! And very true I think - there are lots teetering on the brink, whio might be here soon.

Stop now before you think Christmas is ruined as you forgot the cranberry sauce :p

We have a very sulky daughter at the moment who is objecting to my alternative Christmas dinner. Have told her to feel free to stay at home and cook her own but she wants to come to our house and dictate what we eat. It reminds me of the Royle Family Christmas special where they all complain about the turkey so Barbara says she won't do it next year and they are all up in arms about no turkey :D

I have stopped but OH still seems to be carrying on. We were in Aldi looking at all the Christmas goodies and he suggested buying some gifts for the family we are seeing after Christmas. Aaaaagh!! No! Buy them after Christmas when they are all reduced. The family will never know. We have been on a DMP for over a year now and he still isn't getting it.

  • OH picks out of the things he is planning on buying after Christmas when they are cheap. I don't think he considers that they may all sell pre-Christmas or they may not reduce them.

I have just bought 4 jars of Patak's lime pickle in Aldi for 49p a jar, now that is what I call a bargain!

    Turkey curry anyone? :rotfl:
