  • DMP just about up and running. Had to wait until January to start it due to a reduction in my working hours. So far, Halifax loan accepted the payments, Tesco has reduced all interest to 0% and accepted the payments, same with Barclays. And they have defaulted us. However, Halifax CC refused the offer and passed everything to Wescott. Saved up money for the holidays, have food in the house and took my son out to a cheap Santa's grotto. Roll on January!

  • Hi all.

Read through the whole forum. Very useful and helpful. I have lurked for too long. just wanted to post and say thanks to all. I am due to start a DMP next month and I feel very anxious. I know I got us into this mess. I was an Ostrich until reading this thread.
    Will get there eventually.

Looks like we're starting at the same time prowler. Hopefully we can all get through it!!

I'm finding it a tough start due to Christmas and i've always been 'generous' at Christmas. Generous with the banks money usually though. I'm finding writing on here and in my blog that I'm beginning to understand where I went wrong and its certainly helping me focus on whats right.

My partner has told me today that any money she was going to spend on my for Christmas will be spent on my little niece and nephew to ensure they get something so that's pretty cool. My family know about my issues now (big step on Wednesday night) but little ones shouldn't be affected in my view.
    LBM - Dec 2012 (just under £27,000)
    DMP - Jan 2013 - Aug 2017

Aiming for DFD of Dec 2015
  • Good Luck to both of us. No. Good luck to all of us.
    Will get there eventually.

    Thank you :)

DH gets cross because we don't have any money for him to buy me something, which in turn stresses me out. I don't want anything! I bought him a couple of bits (only a books I know he wants) which then makes him feel bad for not getting me anything. I'd rather have a book of 'vouchers' from him for a neck rub on demand at the end of a bad day (bliss!) but he thinks he needs to buy something and doesn't accept that I'd be happy with that.
We also had to borrow some money to buy a washing machine, which we'll be paying back at the beginning of January when I receive my student finance, but it's annoying that the wm decided to pack up within weeks of starting the DMP. Such is life though!

    Morning

Have you considered putting a price limit on a small present for him as it seems it means a lot to him to buy you something. May help manage his stress levels?

Barclaycard won't default you, they are the worst creditor as far as I am concerned. By not defaulting they will continue to apply higher and higher interest as your minimum payment figure compared to the debt increases.

I have found out that if you are paying between 1%-2% of the balance then they charge 6.9%, above 2% it goes to over 12%.
They want to keep you in debt to keep sucking you like a leech.

I wrote to them when they threatened me with a default for lowering my monthly payment on two occasions. I wrote back pleading with them to default me. Suddenly they didn't want to do that. Typical threat o grams to try and scare you. They prey on your fear and don't like it when you stand up to their threats and see through them for what they are.

Yes that's what Barclaycard did to me too. They still look saintly compared to M&S!

Welcome. Worst step over, you will be on your way before you know it.

Your words echo the position many of us were in. Knowledge and support here is very empowering. The first couple of months are stressful but you are still going forwards, even in that first month when the debt can go up. It's really helpful if when you are feeling anxious if you can be specific about the worry, no matter how silly it may feel. That way people can best offer support and advice specific to you.

Good luck with your start up

We are lucky enough not to have debt with Barclaycard but I am with HH all the way on M&S being the worst of them all.

No reduction in interest whatsoever and charging 24.9%, no defaults, they don't believe we are in financial difficulty yet they mark us as 4 month in arrears with payments on our credit report and we have never missed a payment

    Hi and welcome Prowler :hello:

Reading the whole of this thread was the best thing I ever did, the information, help and advice is absolutely invaluable :T

Once I started posting here I realised that the support was a real lifesaver. People here really do undertstand how you feel because we are in the same position. Any questions you have someone always tries to answer. When you feel down, someone tries to cheer you up. When you are angry with a bank, someone sympathises and tells you their experience. It's all about mutual support and it works :A

So now you have your head out of the sand, and it takes us all a while to get there, so well done on that, please stick around and join us :D
