iPad could still be worth a bit for spares :-)

Thanks hadn't thought of that. We are exploring the claim on the insurance possibility at the moment.

Thank you all for your quotes again. They have all really helped. I do have my own blog going at the moment which does seem to be helping but I also really like that people here can put the virtual arm around and the virtual kick up the backside.

Today has been another difficult day. I've spent over a year lying to my partner about how much trouble I've been in and its made home-life difficult. She's assisting me with budgets and has taken all cards and logins away from me and she does seem to want to help. Things are just a tad awkward right now - I feel stupid, useless and lost.

As i said, another below average day today but I believe this may be down to being unable to do anything now. I'm on edge that all my creditors will not agree and because I'm now playing the waiting game for all this to be sorted, I feel a tad useless.

I made the decision to fix this (with help from everywhere i can) and i cannot do anything more than I have done. I just wish i could.

Hi DJB - Hope things are looking a bit more positive this morning. At least your partner is willing to help even though things may be a bit awkward between you. My OH and I both knew about our money situation but it was always a source of arguments because OH earns a good wage and couldn't see why he couldn't spend it. The DMP has been a lifesaver because we have no choice now, and we can only buy new stuff with saved cash. No cash = no new stuff.

I think we can all identify with the feelings of failure and guilt etc. but try not to beat yourself up too much about it because there are a lot of us here doing exactly the same thing, so you aren't the only one.

All of our creditors have accepted ours and frozen interest, except Lloyds.

Having a bit of a down day today, it's nearly Christmas and we're skint. We'll be in a better position next year, but this year sucks a bit. We've got the main presents for the kids, just need little stocking fillers etc, but I'm still feeling a bit low.

    Hi,

Just wanted to add my two penneth...

We have had 3 pretty skint Christmasses, but you know what - its a day that we got on with, once the pressie bit is done its a day to get on with the family, when people asked us what we got each other, we just said - Oh allsorts... and then changed the subject. Pretty much the same this year to be honest, our habits have really changed and we will enjoy spending it with the family.
Try not to get too down, there is sooo much pressure for the perfect day - I knew someone whose day was ruined cos they forgot the cranberry sauce!! That will put into perspective what makes or breaks the day.

We have had some very low times, but you are really not alone.

    Hi all,

    First time poster!!

I've use this site a few times for various things but never registered. After many years of suffering with debt which gradually grew to £26,000, over the last few days, many heart to hearts with my partner (who didn't know the full amount of debt) and a number of phonecalls to various companies / charities its been agreed that the best way forward for me is a 4-5 year DMP.

Quite honestly, even though the process is at the very beginning, I already feel like I may get some proper sleep tonight for the first time in months. My appetite has returned and I feel like there may be light at the tunnel.

I'm well aware that i may continue to receive phone calls and letters demanding money, but I'm prepared for the worst - after all, how much worse can it be than borrowing from quickquid to make sure a halifax credit card is paid.....

The payday loan was the final straw....

I guess i'm just writing here to say that for the next few years, I'll be hanging around here like a bad smell seeking guidance if necessary and also, maybe one day, supporting others who aregoing through what i'm suffering at the moment.

    So.....hello everyone!!!

I hope i'm posting in the right place :) :j

Hang in there, you have made the right move. You are going to get control of your debts, its always a bit unnerving for the first month, but it really settles down quickly. I have said before on this forum that having SC on your side is like having a strong bouncer watch your back. The creditors do speak to them and listen, as soon as I mentioned SC in the early days they backed off straight away. All we get now are monthly statements, no calls - nothing!

    Good luck!!

Thought it worth mentioning now that everyone but Barclaycard has now defaulted us. Halifax has sold on the debt but we still have no hassle from anyone.
HSBC sent a letter saying they are about to sell on the debt this week but nothing else.

    Thank you :)

DH gets cross because we don't have any money for him to buy me something, which in turn stresses me out. I don't want anything! I bought him a couple of bits (only a books I know he wants) which then makes him feel bad for not getting me anything. I'd rather have a book of 'vouchers' from him for a neck rub on demand at the end of a bad day (bliss!) but he thinks he needs to buy something and doesn't accept that I'd be happy with that.
We also had to borrow some money to buy a washing machine, which we'll be paying back at the beginning of January when I receive my student finance, but it's annoying that the wm decided to pack up within weeks of starting the DMP. Such is life though!

Barclaycard won't default you, they are the worst creditor as far as I am concerned. By not defaulting they will continue to apply higher and higher interest as your minimum payment figure compared to the debt increases.

I have found out that if you are paying between 1%-2% of the balance then they charge 6.9%, above 2% it goes to over 12%.
They want to keep you in debt to keep sucking you like a leech.

I wrote to them when they threatened me with a default for lowering my monthly payment on two occasions. I wrote back pleading with them to default me. Suddenly they didn't want to do that. Typical threat o grams to try and scare you. They prey on your fear and don't like it when you stand up to their threats and see through them for what they are.
