I really wish people would stop perpetuating this myth, I refer you to my previous post #4388

There will be rules and logic, its just not as simple as company 'A' always freezes interest on all accounts in a DMP. Thats what people want, but its not what happens. We just don't know their rules. They will assess the size of the debt, the total debt owed, percentage payback etc, etc. This will be different with everyone and so can result in a different decision for everyone. It doesn't mean there is no rules or logical reasoning, just that your circumstances are different to another person.

If people are willing to post their entire credit history, then we could possibly start to figure out the rules, but as that's unlikely to happen, then don't assume one company will treat you the same as another debtor merely because you both have an account with said company.

I know it can seem unfair when you hear that in most cases a company freezes interest, but then doesn't for you. None of the above I talk about should deter you from complaining and trying to get interest stopped, just don't have any expectation of what will happen based on what happened to other people.

EDIT: And just to complicate things further Company 'A' rules will be different to Company 'B' so you can't just apply a blanket assumption to every company/debtor

No offence intended at all but do you mind me asking what makes you an expert on this?

There have actually been quite a few direct comparisons done on this thread and others and I have actually swapped a lot of details of our debts and payments with another member with creditors in common and similar starting debts/monthly payments to compare notes. And there really was nothing logical about our treatment.

We won a FOS case against NatWest because they were treating us totally differently on 2 accounts with them. There is one regular poster here who has 2 accounts with the same creditor but is treated differently for each.

So why is it a myth and how do you know this?

I didn't quite make a blanket observation. That was my point -everyone is treated differently. But as you say "we don't know their rules"
And of course it depends on circumstances - but should those rules not be made more transparent?

    'Twitty'

    Transparent bank rules?

Did I see a pig fly past just then? :rotfl:

  • Grrrr, bloody Barclays. WRT to the above convo - Barclays have treated each of our accounts completely differently - some with % frozen, one with nominal % being charged - when we've questioned and pushed we were told be Barclays that they charge because they never stop % altogether.....erm?! May I refer you to our other accounts?! And one account that has become problematic in the last few weeks - they have started applying late payment charges and % and claim to have never known we were on a DMP or payment plan..... erm?!

Absolutely bizarre. Barclays, as I have noted earlier, really would struggle to tell the difference between the bendy, pointy bits in the middle of their arms, and the squishy cheeks they sit down on......

Ooh and please may this be the year Santa brings me Colin Firth? :j:j:j
Don't want to hang around like the last guest at the restaurant (there's nothing so past as someone post DMP) but it's been lovely to be back in touch this past few days.

Keep strong, keep paying and never let the b*st*ds grind you down (my DMP motto :D)

I want to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Christmas. May the peace and joy of the season be with you. (You don't need loadsa money for this-honest) :santa2:

And a very happy New Future as well - it might not seem like it now, but what you are living and learning now will stand you in good stead for the future.

    Have a good one! :rudolf:

    'Twitty' xxx

It's lovely having you here :j

I remember when I first started here, you answered a question of mine, and someone told me something like take notice of Twitty, she is very wise. I read lots more of your posts and decided they were 100% correct!

This is going to be our best Christmas ever, everything is paid for out of our budget and there will be no more OMG CC bills in January like previous years. My LBM came at the beginning of January last year, having sold my dead mother's jewellery to pretend Christmas was normal and still having run out of money 3 weeks before payday. It felt like the worst moment of my life, now I know it was the best thing that ever happened.

Have a truly wonderful Christmas Twitty and a very happy new year and please don't forget us and come back and visit loads.

Oh and I hope you find Colin Firth in your stocking .... that sounds a bit ooh-er-missus! :D

Ok I maybe have been a bit strong with saying Myth.

I'm not saying I agree with what the creditors do, but they will not just decide on a whim, they will have rules and procedures to follow. You may well have shared a lot between yourselves, but unless you know what their rules are and have shared everything pertinent to those rules, you can't draw the conclusion their is no logic.

More than likely its a computer algorithm that makes the decision.

Again, I reiterate, don't let it stop you from complaining and in TFFTM's case winning against them (well done for that btw, the more wins against the banks the better).

I'm just trying to temper people's expectation of what any company will do, don't base it on what they have done with other people, your circumstances are not the same as anybody else.

EDIT: The real problem is not knowing the RULES, if we did you could then see why a decision has been made. It may still seem illogical and unfair but at least we could understand how they arrived at the decision.

Sounds a bit like us and NatWest at the moment. They send us letters every day about the charges they are applying and they are going to refer collections to a DCA if we do not set up a payment plan with them. Not sure how they think we have paid back over £3000 in 10 months when they claim they never accepted our DMP

Maybe we should send Barclaycard and NatWest a Christmas gift ...

    .

    Hi,
I accept that, but that's more difficult to swallow when you have four accounts with one creditor - as we do - and each account has been treated completely differently and we've been given different information about their rules and decision-making process on several occasions. For example 'Barclays will never, under any circumstances stop all interest charges'... but they already had, and still have, on two of our other accounts with them?

Thanks, didn't really mean to make my first couple of posts seem so negative. :)
