Just popped back in for a quick read today
Sorry you're finding start-up such a struggle BR.
But what you have to remember and come to terms with is the 'lots of nice stuff that, in the past, i could have just got for myself with no bother' wasn't bought with your money. It belonged to the bank/CC company or whatever. This is one of the reasons, why you (and others, including myself) end up on a DMP.
Don't mean to sound harsh, but this is the truth and the reality. And it really does get better. Living on a DMP is no barrel of laughs; it's bl**dy hard work at times. Give it just a while and then you'll start to see an improvement and balances come down. Then youll know you're chipping away at that debt mountain till it's nowt but dust
There are lots of ways to budget and make £10 go a very, very long way. Lots of other threads on this site with hints and tips.
I know I'm on the other side of the fence now, but I'll let you in on a little secret - once the happy day comes when you are debt free, budgeting becomes pure pleasure. Because every penny saved or well spent is a triumph! It yours now - doesn't have to go to CCCS/Payplan etc - its yours
Good luck to you and all just starting on a DMP. You should congratulate yourselves for lifting your head from the mire and facing up to your debts.
'Twitty'
Yeah, I know it'll get better, it has to really otherwise I'll go under..
I think part of the issue is that it's Mr BR's DMP, His Debts, but because we're together and I'm not bringing in any regular income atm, it's effecting me 100%, and yet I feel a bit out of control of the whole thing. It's a bit hard to explain what I mean really - but I just feel down, depressed and as though I want to get out, run, and escape it all.Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

CCCS will take that DD on the 1st of the month and then make the payments around the 25th. This is how they continue to be a charity. They use the interest earned between these dates to run the business. They do seem to sometimes allow the DD to be on the 10th but I think you'd need to speak to them about that.
Stardrops!!!! That is such a good tip - I had forgotten about this product. It's brilliant and cheap!!I meant no offence, this time last year i was in the black and comfortable.... but with my parents business going under and i am the only person working.....the cost of living is so expensive
Horsesforcourses, don't beat yourself up too much. So many people get into difficult situations before they know what has hit them. I'm irish and the rest of my family lives there still, things are so bad there, they are all struggling so much and each one of them used to successfully run their own businesses, now only one does. It can happen to the best of us. But you're making steps to change things so don't look back, look forward, it's difficult now but it will get better. I'm 32, have over £30,000 of debt, if I'd faced it at your age I'd be out of it now but that's my lesson, we all learn them. Don't suffer on your own though, make sure you have someone to talk to, obviously we're always here.0 -
Got my first letter today from CCCS saying that my Halifax CC won't accept my reduced offer due to 'recent spending on my account', anyone know what they mean by this? It can't be because I've been spending money on their, I haven't used it because it's up to the max and I've only been paying the minimum payment which is mainly interest anyways.
Our bank did it with us as well, it's nothing to worry about. I rang CCCS and they said it might have been because the account was used within the last month (we used it last in early Dec, and started our DMP properly in early Jan).
Give CCCS a ring and let them know that the only movement on the CC account has been your minimum payments and their charges. They'll get it sorted. Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Ours is taken on the 10th. They didn't ask, and we didn't ask, it was just the date we were given. (In many ways it would be easier if they took it on the 1st)Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Hi all,
Just briefly checking in to see how you all are? Have been working silly hours and shattered! Now just got to talk the boss into paying them for me rather than upping my flexi
Month one of DMP is nearly over. We've done ok - and without any "unexpected incidents" it's been a quite straightforward month. I'd like to give some hope to all people starting this journey that being in the DMP will make things easier! We've managed to have food in the cupboard (albeit hardly anything left now as payday is next Tuesday) and clothe the kids. You never know I may even be able to stretch to a haircut next month (something i haven't been able to afford in 12 months!). Hubby's overtime has been on and every penny of it transferred out of the current account and into savings to ensure we live by the budget. The bonus is we've now been able to afford to repay money owed to our family and friends. Bonus!
BR - I'm sending some hugs too! I know you've had a rough month. Please keep a check on your CCCS budget any make sure it's adequate enough to let you live frugally but comfortably. Blinking cars is all I can add! Am dreading the service and MOT season (bike Mar - car June). Think the car will need some work if I'm honest.SPC5 #1457 Long hauler #293

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! That's fab news!!!!
I'm getting on the weight loss wagon next week btw, wanted to get my DMP all set up first and then focus on this. So I'll keep you updated. Must add this and my debt into a signature.Ours is taken on the 10th. They didn't ask, and we didn't ask, it was just the date we were given. (In many ways it would be easier if they took it on the 1st)
BR ask CCCS I can't see any reason they couldn't change that for you, it's technically better for them as they have the money for longer to earn the interest! And if it would help you out, that would be great.0 -
Hello can someone help, Payplan are contacting all my creditors now. They have said I should make a token payment. HOw should I do this, what should I offer and should I contact them to say this is my circumstances?0
