  • In need of some virtual hugs tonight!

I could scream/cry, I was feeling very positive, all paperwork gone off to CCCS just awaiting confirmation of everything, was looking forward to getting paid on Friday as it ment we could squirral a little away until the DMP started, then today car has failed MOT needs about £200 spending on it, needs taxing on Friday so back to square one :(

The logical part of me is saying we would be in a real mess if I hadn't set the DMP up but why does nothing every go right!!

  • Hi everyone, thought I'd give a quick update...

I didn't manage to speak to Payplan (appt is now on sunday) and CCCS haven't sent me a pack yet? (I requested online last saturday, should I ring?) I've managed to get a new bank account and they are transferring all direct debits etc. After my initial I MUST DO THIS NOW panic, I've done my sums and think I'm going to delay for a month just so new account is up and running properly (knowing that all my income is going into the new bank, I'm worried about my mortgage payment bouncing, the rest can whistle!) and then start the whole DMP process...just in time for Christmas:eek:
I have enough money to pay towards my debts, it's just that I have to spend on the cards to live for a bit longer...I'm not wimping out I promise!

Just wanted to say that all your advice has been invaluable knowing that there is a way out and your support is amazing:A

From reading other posts I realise that even though my situation is not good, it is all down to me, and affects no-one but me....to those of you who have other halves who have, or haven't, jumped on the DMP bandwagon please try to remember that you've shown amazing strength in opening up about the situation to nearest and dearest, In my opinion the hardest bit is over (or would be for me at least :o)...onwards and upwards (or onwards and onwards....must be better than downwards!)

Do you only need to do this because you do not get regular statements from your creditors? We still get monthly statements from every creditor and use these to immediately check every debt and update on CCCS website where necessary.

I have read a few posts on the main DFW thread re nasty surprises at the end of DMPs, there is no prejudice on my behalf but they all seem to be Payplan DMPs, and I just wonder how this has happened.

I did TTFM for my own peace of mind as I want to know BEFORE Dec what is due so I can make decisions about the future.
I know Payplan will also get this info BUT I fear it wont be till Dec which scuppers me for forward planning doesnt it ?.

As for further interest, I already know about HBOS, I want confirmation from Capital One & Robinson Way (ex Cahoot) to see if they will charge interest.

I will update you with their replies !.

If you can, try not to spend any more on your cards. If there is recent activity on your accounts, your creditors will be less inclined to be cooperative as it will appear you've deliberately run up additional debt.

If you're only delaying a month, why not make £1 token payments to your creditors, send them the letters advising that you're in financial difficulty and are in the process of getting advice and help from CCCS/Payplan/whoever. That way, they see you as someone willing to still pay something, even if it's only £1, not someone who is wilfully making their situation worse.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but if you're only delaying by a month, then this option will most likely work out in your favour. You can try and have a 'dry run' with your DMP household budget, and put everything else away as a backup fund.

Also, if you applied online to CCCS, then they will have emailed your pack to you. I was expecting mine by post but it popped up in my email 24 hours after I applied. Check your mail, check your junk mail, and email/call them and ask them to send it again if you definitely haven't got it.

Don't give up just as you're getting started!! We're here to help you through it.

    D3P0,

Do you mean speak to the bank about changing to a single account, or speak to the bank about off setting?

    G1W

I would go down and speak to someone today and tell them that you are worried the bank will get and keep the money. Any money owed to the bank will be part of a DMP and you will be paying it back. I can't for the life of me imagine they'd be as cold hearted to let you walk in off the street, pour your heart out and then say "well, you've just been paid X, and we're keeping it".

Call them, explain what's going on. Don't mention about setting up another account with a different bank. Just get sorted this month then you have time to sort out properly for next month.

    Good luck.

DMPhereIcome, Grand Benders is correct about token payments. As long as you are re - paying albeit a £1, or whatever, you are still seen to be repaying the debt as best you can.

Hi lizzy23, yes I used their switching team, requested it online, all happened with no fuss, I got a few texts telling me the current situation, then a text to say all done! It took approx 2 weeks, no hassle. I did advise my mortgage company, council tax by phone though just to make sure!
