DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 8

  • I have sent them all template letters by recorded delivery advising them that CCCS will be dealing with this on my behalf, so I'm just ignoring the calls. Mainly because I can't answer and talk privately at work, and secondly because I'm a big scaredy cat and I'm worried about what they will say. Will they stop calling eventually?

We ignored calls to start off then decided to answer them and respond according to the person at the other end. Lloyds TSB were dreadful, everyone else was fine and the calls stopped within about 3 weeks. We did pretend to be an answering machine a few times :o

Hang on in there, the first few weeks are bumpy then it all starts to settle down. Think of that light at the end of the tunnel and it will keep you going :)

  • Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience of iDebtPlan. I have just set up my plan today agreeing to pay £80pcm and owe approx £7000 in debt. I also ask the question as I have a car on finance paying £150pcm and really cannot afford this, is it possible to add this debt to the plan and if so do I then loose the car! I feel as if I have taken a huge step today in owning up to debt, find it hard but thanks to all you mse's your a great help!!

    Hi Smartleys :hello:

Can I ask why you have chosen to go with iDebtPlan rather than a free service like CCCS or Payplan? iDebtPlan like to tell everyone that they offer a free service but what they mean is that there is no set up fee and they still make a monthly charge for the service:

"Incredibly, we only charge a standard management fee of £35 or 17.625% of your monthly payment (whichever is higher). For this, we will set up your plan, contact all of your creditors to inform them that we are now acting on your behalf, deal with all correspondence and phone calls, but perhaps most importantly, give you total peace of mind that your debts are now being dealt with efficiently, effectively and all under one roof."

You would get the same service from either CCCS or Payplan, then every penny would be going towards your debts and not to line iDebtPlan's pockets.

If you have only set this up today, there should be a cooling off period allowing you to change your mind. I would strongly recommend speaking to either CCCS or Payplan, or even both, before making a final decision.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on :)

Christ! I missed that small print, and was never told it by phone. May be it is a good idea to cancel tonight really and get the ball rolling with either CCCS or Payplan. I will have a look and get the idebt one cancelled, I suppose it was more of the weight off my mind really and was too eager!! Thanks !!!!!!

  • Hi all,

Quick update. Told the wife tonight! As expected it was taken very badly. Hope we still have a future. She can never trust me again after this. At the minute I don't feel any better!

    DFD - 11.07.2019 (OMG).
New DFD is 28.10.2018 due to paying the absolute maximum.

Thanks to everyone on the DMP forum, and to SC for helping me out of this huge hole.
  • G1W,

It's early days and it is bound to be a shock. It will have been a bit of a bombshell.

Over time you can show her that you are determined to beat the debt and to earn back her trust.

Hope things settle down quickly and you are able to tackle the debts together.

I have now been in touch with Payplan and just spoke to a lovely lady (nice not to be judged). Have now made a telephone appointment for Friday! I looked at the T+Cs for iDebt and I can cancel within 14 days, so i am gong to cancel that tonight by letter (recorded post) and cancel direct debit also. Thank you so so much !!!!!!!:A

  • Hi All

Just had a MLBM (Mini Light Bulb Moment) :D.

I set up my DMP but did not include anything in my outgoings budget for the new baby due at the end of January.

Would it be best to amend my DMP now, to take into account things like nappies, food, etc, or wait until February and then inform the CCCS and amend the DMP then?
    LBM - August 2012
    DMP Start - 01/11/2012
    DMP Finish - 01/09/2014

Thanks to all on MSE. :T
