I am sending myself daft trying to decide.

Some reviews for the Ace are quite poor so wondering if it is worth the extra £40 or whether I should go with the low range Y and be done with it.

Any other phones up to £130 that people would recommend I look at?

Why do you dismiss the Vivacity mentioned above? (Or Orange San Francisco 2 that is the same in a different body)

Because I am with O2 and don't want to change networks.

have you thought about going to second hand shop/ those places that buy 2nd hand sofas, fridge freezers. Cash Converters, you'll find a old stolen phone there & they might have some smart phones too.

But you do seem to be very picky and cheap so have you thought about HTC wildfire s, Iv seen it on the internet for £150 less. its a nice phone 512ram, 3.2 inches

It can be unlocked pretty easily, but you'll probably lose the warranty.

What they said above. OSFII/T-Mobile Vivacity, they're both better than the two Samsungs you mention and you can unlock them for free. I wouldn't worry about it hurting the warranty, I doubt they'd even notice. BUT, if you're worried you can reverse the unlock.

Are you sure that it can be unlocked without reinstalling the OS? I am no expert and am not good in this terminology, but this was what my son has done with my wife's Vivacity.

Hmm just looked again, I thought part of the instructions was backing up the bits that are going to get changed, but it's only for the wifi MAC. My bad. I guess a stock FTM would be able to revert though.

Either way, it's at such a low level it's not going to get discovered. I doubt the outcome is any different a 'proper' unlock anyway.

The Acer Liquid Metal is the best choice definitely. Why don't like you like Acer? £130. It is considerably more powerful than the Ace and Y. It would 100% be the best choice and phone for the money.
