Samsung Galaxy Ace or Y
I've been looking at new phones and have discounted Blackberry as keys too small, no desire for an iphone plus I couldn't afford it anyway.
I seem to be drawn to the Samsung phones I've seen and budget wise I have got it down to the Galaxy Ace or the Galaxy Y.
The Y seems to have newer operating system that the Ace but the Ace is more expensive.
What are people's experiences of these phones?? Which would you choose?

You can consider T-mobile Vivacity (ZTE) that in terms of specifications is virtually the same as Ace, but the screen is better and it is available for £100+£10 with £20 cashback and 6 months of free internet.

Hi i had same decision to make as yourself, in the end i went for the sony eric arc s.
Outstanding phone with bravia engine and camera as good as my norm digital camera. I paid 200 for mine cash (didnt want contract) this was reduced from 320!. this was at phones 4u in exeter. I then toddled up to three and have a rolling 15 pound sim card with 1000 mins 5000 txts and all you can eat data. I have been watching bbc iplayer at work on nights and the sony was way faster than mates iphone 4 with much better quality (hd).
I nearly got the tmobile sim but i believe their sim is 500 mb of download with unlimited surfing, it is not very clear on their website. With three i have downloaded over 2gigs of music and streamed hours of tv, watched the fa cup live other day. The battery seems to be good as well as even with heavy use (kids and cbeebies) it still lasts the day.
Three offered me the arc s, phone with same tarrif for 22 a month. very good bargin and lush screen size. if you into downloading, movies, games, videos etc the three tariff seems to be best. my signal quality is way better than the O2 network i had. oh and lastly when on the internet with phone it is very very quick at loading pages.
what ever phone u go for think and check out the three network in your area. what i did was buy a 1.99 sim card from three and went home to test out the signal.
good luck with phone:jThe word about the scammers is spreading like marmite here in the westcountry.
We workers all love it and the ppc hate it :rotfl:0 -
Thank you!
I should have said in my original post (that will teach me to post late at night) I am with O2 and plan to stay with them and also I am not on a contract so I am looking to buy a phone.
Another thing that has me confused is most places state the Galaxy Ace has Android 2.2 Froyo and the Y has 2.3 Gingerbread but O2 state the Ace has Gingerbread.0 -
it looks like the Ace can have 2.3 on it, its likely that it ships with 2.2 froyo and then will update over-the-air (OTA) to 2.3 gingerbread
see here http://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/news/2011/10/android_2_3_5_gingerbread_coming_to_samsung_galaxy_ace/0 -
I would avoid both of those phones because they are just too slow and basic.
The Galaxy W is around £200 which is very fast and a great phone. Also the Samsung Nexus S is £200 at the Carphone Warehouse sale, amazing deal and phone. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks but budget won't stretch that far!
But out of curiosity I did have a look at CPW site and couldn't see these phones at £200.0 -
Have you thought about buying one of those phoens from Ebay, 4.3 inch screen from china. They sound good but they are not branded phones. I think u can get one for $100 + or less.
But if i was you and just wanted a smart phone for a cheap price. Then Acer Liquid Metal Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It was a major flop when it lauched because android software wasn't that great, but now they have gingerbread on it and its so much better, plus you can find out ways to make it cool by adding apps. $139, ur kinda phone0 -

Can't say that I have considered non branded from China, to be honest I'd be worried about going that route.
As for Acer, I won't buy Acer products, very long story!!!0 -
Our daughter just bought the Ace from O2 (cheap there!) - and I confirm it has Gingerbread pre-installed!
Also, it stated ON THE INVOICE "Sim Free" - although it does have O2 branding on start-up. I mention this because it really does make this a VERY good buy at a tad under £130, delivered.
It seems quite quick and , after use for 2 days , the ONLY criticism is (as with all budget Androids) - relatively poor battery life. Google for solutions; there are a few in Android Market Place.
All-in-all, very VERY good for the money.0
