Virgin vs TalkTalk

Hello all,
Thinking of switching suppliers from Virgin Media to TalkTalk. Mainly because TalkTalk are offering a cheaper price compared to what I'm paying. I'm a faithful Virgin customer and haven't got a bad word to say against them, however I've had a lot of problems with my broadband since connecting in September. Virgin have helped me a lot with the issues, but it seems to be a general problem with my line with Virgin won't fix until it gets worse.
I'm wary of moving partly because I know switching suppliers won't fix the problems with my line and I've never dealt with BT. The only things I've heard is that BT's customer service is terrible and their broadband is terrible. However I've heard the same about Virgin (despite my experience differing).
What are peoples general experience with the 2?
Thank you

I'm a TT customer and have been for the last year - had a couple of teething problems with the broadband when first set up but both were sorted by the higher level technical team and it's been fine since then.
I realise I'm in the minority...Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Hi.
I was a faithful Virgin customer too - about 10 years - but our connection has been flaky for the past year and getting worse. To be fair to them, I never had to contact their customer services as apart from the recent intermittent downtime it always worked.
The only reason I kept it was because we were on an old unlimited downloads package and it would have cost a chunk to upgrade, we still wouldn't benefit from Cable/Fibreoptic and couldn't get a faster speed from the exchange anyway.
Or so I thought.
TalkTalk had called offering anytime calls/unlimited downloads/discounted rates and...get this....promising a 14Meg download. I was wary since every speed checker gave us an 8Meg maximum with a real world of 6Meg.
After another day of terrible connection I took the plunge. Half price for 9 months, unlimited downloads, anytime calls and courtesy of TopCashback.......£60 in my pocket :money:.
Painless switchover and straight out the box it was pushing 13.5Meg downloads. They obviously have their own kit in our exchange - which was mentioned somewhere but I was still unsure - which makes all the difference.
No problems with bills or anything so far so fingers crossed.0 -
I've been with TT for about 6 years for calls and 4 years for BB, and they've been fine. Their CS can be frustrating but they tend to get there in the end. Their online CS is quite good. Only problem I tend to get is watching iPlayer etc around 7-8pm, quite slow, but other times it's OK. They have quite a high 40GB limit for the basic tariff, but if you go over it occasionally they don't seem to mind. They have an option to pre-pay line rental for a year which works out a lot cheaper0

Sorry but i only deal in companies that have UK based call centres and employ UK based staff that dont read from scripts.
I am positive the op will regret, plus what use is an online Customer Service when your connections down.0 -

Well nobody I know who's signed up to TT regrets it. Not all of us object to speaking to foreigners occasionally.0 -
Thanks all. Decided to stick with VM after reading the reviews of TT. Still gonna look around as I think I'm paying over the odds.0

Wrong. If you are on VM cable service (you didn't say) then that line is no use for a TT ADSL service. To use TT you will need a BT-based landline installing to get any ADSL broadband service. VM is the only cable-based service available.
If you are on Virgin National, then the line problem will remain. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
TalkTalk is alright actually for the price you're paying for their services. If you want better service, I recommend Sky or something, but if you're happy with low-cost and but standard quality TT is not bad at all.~ Better mad with the rest of the world than wise alone.0
