Sky Multiroom

Couple of questions:

How long is the cooling off period with sky for a new box and Multiroom?

When u request a DE-INSTALL will the sky engineer likely take away the extra cable aswell which they fitted for Multiroom? Is a de-install free?

Is it possible to have freest+ and a sky box running from 1 dish as not all the free channels are available on freesat?

Seven day cooling off period. The Sky monkey won't remove any internal cabling for the simple reason to so may damage any surfaces that the cables attached to.(ie-phone lead stapled to skirting)
It is possible to run freesat alongside a Sky subscription providing you have a Quad LNB.

So basically I could get sky to run me another lead off the dish for Multiroom, then within 7 days cancel return the second sky box and just use a freesat+ box along with the normal sky box.
  • Sure, nothing really stopping you.

The engineer who installed the box will not receive his pay for that job. I wouldn't do it for that reason alone.

Actually he would. The only time he wouldn't be paid for the job is if the customer cancels on the doorstep, then he'd have to pick up another job to replace it.
However if the OP does what he's suggesting,Sky might still charge him for the install of the box he keeps plus the cost of running the multiroom feed & the Quad LNB.
They may also not allow him to cancel just the one box,it'll be both boxes & then the OP has to wait a year before signing up again.
  • I'm sure I read something on the AVC megathread on digital spy to that effect.

Interesting proposition actually, turnaround usually only make a fuss about cancelling something which is dependant on something else, eg, removal of an HD mix in the grace period when a box came subsidised as a result.

It appears in this case, free box/install would have probably come with the main box regardless of whether the MR sub was on the order at all. In which case, there appears to be no reason why OP couldn't do it.

Apart from some basic level of morality.

Why would they charge me to keep the second sky box when this is originally mine.
How would sky know if the engineer has removed the wiring for the Multiroom or not as long as the new box is returned to the engineer.

They told me a deinstall wud be free if canceled within the cooling off period.

Why bother with all the hassle just slip the installer £x to throw in the room feed on the day.

For one you never stated you already had an existing box.

It will be on the work order

Maybe so,but a deinstall would also mean removal of the Quad LNB & replacement with a single LNB if you only have a standard box at present,in which case if you want to hook up a freesat box as well as your existing Sky box, you'll have to get one installed.
This would also be on the work order & the recovered Quad LNB would have to be handed into stores the next day.If you wanted to keep the Quad LNB,you'd be charged for it.

How much is a Quad LNB roughly? or better still what is the LNB called where you can connect 3 boxes from 2 freesat boxes and 1 sky box.

    Thanks
