The son of a friend got married in October and my husband and I were on holiday and could not attend the wedding. I bought a poster of a local scene, framed it, wrapped it in bubblewrap, and then wrapped it in wedding paper etc. So I did take quite a lot of trouble with it.

That was October and still not a word of thanks. The same happened two years ago when I bought expensive towels for a friend's daughter and received no thanks at all.

I think not to offer any thanks is very ungracious; or am I old fashioned?
  • i honestly think that not many people write thank you notes anymore, it isnt them being rude.. they probably havent been brought up to do them........

we have to accept this ... you could be waiting a long time for one.. you either sit and stew on it or you move on.............

But surely its rude regardless of whether you were brought up to do so. Yes it isnt the childs fault but its definitely the parents...

I think there's a whole generation of us oldies, quietly seething about the lack of manners in the young in this area. At the same time, there's another generation of those blithely unaware that what they are doing causes offence.

I'm quite happy with a quick 'phone call of thanks and when (and if) it happens, I always make sure that after a maximum of two minutes, I'm the one who says 'thank you for calling and goodbye' - or something similar - so that they always know they haven't got to listen to me droning on and on....................
