also to note VM are doubling their BB speeds starting in Feb http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16491614 so get 50Mbit and you will have 100Mbit soon, or you could get 30Mbit and end up with 60Mbit.

Nevertheless, while there is an FUP in place under the contract, they always have the option of enforcing it should the policy change. Other ISP's have done just that.

Quite so. However I prefer to use my own experience as a customer for 4 years. :)

What about o2 The Works package? it seems to offer unlimited data (well 250GB but that should be enough), 20 mb download ans 2.5mb upload and I have a friend on o2 who has been with them for 2 years so should be able to get the 12 months half price offer?

I second O2 forADSL. I believe they use BE as their backend. Previous supplier Virgin DSL (not cable) was slow every evening. O2 gives consistently 1.1 Mbps uploads and 11 mbps downloads (I'm about a km from the exchange).

The latest O2 All Rounder is truly unlimited (previously 100GB fair use) according to my billing details online.

Also - it only costs 12.50 per month if you have an O2 mobile (pay as you go ok too) + 7.50 for line rental.

I was with O2 LLU for two years with the old package, newer ones didnt go down well with customers. Always had great support often answered within two rings, even when wanted MAC last year.
O2 own BE and use that network, ok if you are an O2 mobile customer, still got £40 mobile credit left from 11 months ago.
Current offerings do you have to have line rental and phone, i had an independant phone provider.

Just found this on O2 site, better read as it will affect what you intend to do. http://broadband.o2.co.uk/home/trafficmanagement.jsp

I would try and get info on when your cab is FTTC.
If within a few months i would check out Sky and if you could change, no one knows the limits! BT will want line rental, phone package and FTTC, no alternative and 18 month 'Rolling' contract with their past catalogued record!

Cheltenham is due to get Fibre lines 31st March this year.

Not all the lines on an exchange are enabled for fibre - and of the lines which are - not all are done at the same time.. hence the need to check a specific postcode or telephone number.

When BT quote a date of 31 March/June/September or December, they are just estimates and two weeks or so before the date is reached it will change (i.e. in mid march the 31 March dates will change to 31 June).

Just before an area is going live, the date will change to an accurate one - i.e. on the 1st march, it may suddenly say 5 March..
