Xboot and problems booting from Composite Image

Thanks folks, looks like I've got a bit of reading to do.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
Just out of curiosity, is it possible to have a "mini" Windows environment on a bootable stick so you could run things like MBAM?
And would it be possible to make sure this isn't infected just in case?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Hirens has a 'mini' XP but I'm not up to speed on the more recent versions to answer you, it does contain an AV, but it also contains many programs with the potential to wreck a computer, particularly in the wrong hands. NOTE: Windows XP, VISTA ,7 install Disks are not supported.So do not try to add them.
There is another program to consider,
http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
It's similar to Xboot, but only one .iso at a time.
@rmg 1,
Why not just familiarise yourself with the principle first?
Try Xboot or unetbootin with a basic .iso, e.g Puppy linux, have a go at booting from usb if you're a [STRIKE]virg[/STRIKE] first timer at this sort of thing.
As long as your files are backed up (just in case + you're using your 'best' pc
) and you don't go deleting things on your hard drive, then you can astonish your friends and colleagues with your new found prowess.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thanks Spud - I've made a LiveCD before (after a few false starts) and it in onto a bootable USB stick which seemed to work quite well. I was just wondering if it was possible to make a Windows version.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Not so easy , Hi spud , oh hi rmg sorry It is you I am replying to, Hirens has some uses, but forgive me for not scrolling up for now, what do you want to do ? Oh sod it I will scroll ....bear with me, but of course you won't see this until I do, 'cos I won't reply until I do ......zzzzz...rewinds to the present no you can't MBAM works on your current system , i.e. the one you are booting from. But as I said earlier a few posts above (sorry from here I can't spot the post numbers). You can scan files, check the MBR or the partition, but (unless someone else knows better) you cannot use tools like MBAM/HJT/ etc on a system which is not booted.Thanks Spud - I've made a LiveCD before (after a few false starts) and it in onto a bootable USB stick which seemed to work quite well. Still can't use MBAM on the infected system using that either (Hi rmg returns favour)4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -
rmg, if you want an antivirus on your bootable usb, you could pop the avira rescuecd onto it, as I have done (and check it works

)
http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-antivir-rescue-system
it's an .ISO file (also handy to burn a cd of the image too) so you add it to xboot same as the puppy ISO
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Yes, I realise that,
, I was replying to rmg 1 wanting to boot into a Windows type environment.
The idea of these tools is to avoid booting into a Windows type environment and so avoid running the nasties.I was just wondering if it was possible to make a Windows version.
As Gunjack says use the Avira rescue disk to detect malware, use a lightweight OS to retrieve files from a machine that doesn't want to play.
Gparted happens to be my favourite for partitioning drives.
One for the experts, but I think I know the answer, would it be possible to put an .iso of Windows Defender Offline into Xboot?Move along, nothing to see.0 -
