Going diving again tonight! :) just pool based, and going to get our knowledge development exams marked! Fingers crossed! :rotfl:

JTR: what were the guides you recommended at Villamendhoo- we have contacted euro divers, and asked them a few questions, and I mentioned that they were recommended. If you want to PM me your name you may be able to blag a referers discount?! (See can be :money: ) :rotfl:

I didn't get the wetsuit btw. :( got outbid. the reply I got from the Maldives is that a wetsuit isn't needed, but I'm not sure... I mean I did go blue in a swimming pool! :rotfl:

I am getting this suit though: http://www.watersportswarehouse.co.uk/shop/scuba-diving-equipment/mares-collection/wetsuits/mares-trilastic-rashsuit-ladies-722418.html
I am paranoid about gettin sunburnt- n that will keep me nice and covered while snorkelling, kayaking, and windsurfing! :D

I just need to think about where we will be doing most of our diving- and then work with that I think. I will leave it for a bit, as I seem to change my mind every 10mins!

Hi hope you don't mind me popping in! We did an open water referral in the Maldives in 2004, then we went back and did the Advanced the following year. I always wore a shortie suit whilst there, I couldn't have tolerated it without one. In Tenerife I wore full suit, shortie and wetsuit vest and was still cold :o.

I've never seen marine life like we saw in the Maldives and we've dived in several countries (only hot ones :rotfl:) now. One thing I would say is that we found the water in the atolls in the Maldives to be incredibly salty, even my OH who's a real pro and a very accomplished swimmer found it stung badly, will be interesting to see what jtr thought when she got back.

One other thing, for those ladies who mentioned buying a weight belt (sorry if I've misunderstoof this), I've never come across a holidaying diver who had their own - it's a lot of extra weight in your case and no point putting weights on it when you can just rent one. Obviously if you're getting it to use in the UK that's different!

Well we passed the knowledge development! Now ready for our open water dive in 3 months and 4 days! :D

My mask was awesome too, didn't let any water in, n didn't have to clear it once! :D

Struggling with boyency still though, I was trying to do the fin pivot, but my feet are too boyent and won't stay down! I need some ankle weights I think! Does anyone else have this problem?

My dive instructor when I did the OW said women's ankles are more boyant than males and ankle weights aren't uncommon. I find I'm fine if I'm facing downwards (belly pointing to the floor) but if I'm facing up (back towards the floor) it can be harder to control what my ankles are doing - especially on the surface!! x

I'm wondering whether my neoprene socks that I got (never worn them before) may have made them more boyent. Do you think that would reduce if I wore a full wetsuit? Thinking that would even me out a bit?

The socks would have added to it. :) Only one way to find out... :)

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! Got home late last night and I am cream crackered as I was up at 5am (thats 10am Reethi time!).

Absolutely fantastic trip and amazing island, even OH didn't want to leave and normally by day 9/10 he is looking forward to going home but he really wanted to stay. Must have been good because we are booking to go back in April :rotfl:.

Only did 2 dives this time, partly because OH kept to his word and did LOADS of snorkeling with me, (I am so proud of him, considering he isn't a confident swimmer he was out on the drop off with me on his second time and also took a camera out), and after my 2nd dive I was very sick and spent the afternoon in bed which has put me off a bit. I think it's a combination of boat sickness, coating on my regs which hasn't come off yet and dehydration!

Water temp a lovely 29 degrees - no wetsuit for me! Honestly, I think a 5mm would be too much, a full 3mm would be better, you could always borrow a shortie to go over the top if you were getting cold.

Hi Turtle, welcome along! I actually found the red sea saltier than the Maldives but we were getting loads of plankton stings this year, it hurts for about 10 seconds then stops (I've never had salt stings but I know others do feel it).

Johanna....all of the staff at Euro Divers were great, Mike the manager wasn't diving so much when we were there but he is always talking to people and is very happy to help. I did my OW with Hussein but also dived with Silvia (who is Mikes girlfriend ;)), Satoki (a Japanese guy who is ALWAYS smiling, such a sweet and funny guy!) and Illy who is Maldivian and his brother Mode works at Reethi Beach - small world. I think I get a good returning discount if I go back anyway but very kind of you to think of me!

Have uploaded all my snorkeling and diving pics to Facebook and happy to add people on there if you PM me your name, otherwise I will add some FLICKR links when they go on there, probably tomorrow.

Didn't get to snorkel with Manta this year although we did see them from the boat. Did dive with a huge Napoleon Wrasse though, they are seriously gorgeous!

EDIT - I almost forgot, OH officially proposed on our last day! It wasn't hugely romantic as I was sad to be coming home and he used a plastic buckle on my bikini as a ring but hey, he did it!

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D
