Given b/ gas wrong opening and closing read help
:rotfl:Hi guys. I purchased a house on 30 th sept which required refurbished and we have still not moved in as u do I got my heating guy to check the system and he issued me with warning letter due to boiler fumes and turned the gas off at mains
I gave b/ gas an opening reading which must be wrong on 30 th dec I got heating system put in - valiant 837 with all new pipes and radiators and as I changed to npower on 28th never looked at meter and gave same reading as no gas ever been on
Last night after 10 days of central heating on auto 2 hours am and 4 hours pm to general heat empty house I looked at the meter outside as door not secured. It seems I have used 88 units !!!!!! Which is impossible.
Surely when I gave 1st reading b/gas should have noticed not tallying with prev owner ?
Where do I go with this one???
Will need to let new supplier know final reading is incorrect and to cancel it
Help my heads everywhere at mo with a refurb that has gone wrong now this sorry meant to say npower moved to not edf
Any help or advise?

First of all what *exactly* do you mean by "units"? And why do you think it is "impossible"? (if that is a metric meter reading then it is not "impossible"). In fact quite likely correct.
Regarding the "duff" reading, my advice is to give the gaining supplier the correct reading when requested and let the two suppliers sort it out between themselves. There are procedures for that.
Do not contact the losing supplier.
As long as the losing supplier closing reading is the same as the gaining supplier opening reading you will be back on track.0 -
88 gas units if a metric gas meter(most are) is around 1,000kWh - say £35
If an Imperial meter around £100.0 -

Ok just gone up to the house and the heating was on at 630am to 830 am set thermostatically
It has gone from 8328 to 8331.3875. The meter is a gwi version 2 installed 2009 it says
How do I know if it's metric or imperial to me it looks new withloads of digits unlike last house was old thing0 -

to what temperature?
Almost certainly a metric meter. Multiply the difference by 11.2 to get approximate kWhrs, so 38kWhrs. Easily consumed by a boiler heating continuously from cold, hence the importance of the temperature setting.

Hi there thanks for reply a bit dejevue as scotish gas just called me and the unit is metric!! they have told me to contact npower with adjusted reading and they will apply this told me to work it out on a basis of 90 p per unit so if I have the heating on 2 hours am and 2 hours pm is 6 units £5.40 a day which is £150 per month. That's fortunes!!!
The unit was set to 17.5 degrees will need to mess about with it as I'm not staying in house not had chance to judge it. It's a seimems hands free room temperature unit It's got energy saving mode, comfort mode and frost protection at moment I have now changed it to that as only kicks in below 5 degrees
I just don't understand how for years in last house occupied the gas metre never really moved yet this ones doing cartwheels
Is there a chance I have faulty metre or something wrong with the boiler ?0 -

That is not right - you can't be paying that much per unit of gas! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Well done!
However I really don't know why you keep posting your atypical gas, electricity and water consumption, that only serves to confuse.
The OP has a metric gas meter. He has Central Heating - that means that he will exceed the tier 1 rate by a large margin. So he needs to use the Tier 2 rate in any calculations around 3.5p a kWh or 40p a gas unit.
His 88 units that he originally thought was high is approx £35 which for 10 days is reasonable.
His second consumption figure of(3.38 gas units) will cost about £1.40.
If the Scottish gas person said 90p a metric gas meter, as jalexa said, they are incompetant.0 -

if they had used 88 metric units over 10 days thats 8.8 units per day = aprox 96.8kwh per day
npower charge first 882 units a month at high rate on there go save tariff thats 882 kwh / 30 days = 29.4kwh per day at high rate of 8.848p =£2.60 96.8kwh -29.4kwh = 67.4kwh at low rate of 3.141p = £2.12 so £2.12+£2.60 = £4.72 x 10 days = £47.20
£47.20 / 88 units works out at 53.63 p per metric unit
