His second consumption figure of(3.38 gas units) will cost about £1.40.

that will depent on how much gas he uses for the entire day if he just used the 3.38 metric units a day on say npowers go save
he would pay the first 2.67 units at the high rate and 0.71 unit at the lower rate
thats £2.59 high rate and .24p at low rate total £2.83 not £1.40
plus each extra metric unit used in that day will cost 34.5p0 -
Why do you keep referring to 'metric units', when gas is billed in kWh's?

yes i know all the prices are worked out in kwh that is how i work them out in kwh but for a easy guid for some people they want to know how much that is per unit.
thats why i put metric so not to confuse between metric and imperial as the gas meter readings are not shown in kwh

tho op says he used 88 units over 10 days with heating on for 6 hrs you could just ask them to post their actual usage of 16.13kw per hour or 96.78kwh per day if you want to be like that0 -

£47.20 / 88 units works out at 53.63 p per metric unit
Your posts are just designed to confuse issues.
Firstly there is nothing to say he is on Go Save.
Secondly he could well be on their cheapest tariff(go fix 10) which means he pays a daily standing charge - not a Tier 1/Tier 2 system.
Thirdly on the other NPower tariffs with a tier system he pays for 4572 kWh a year at the tier 1 rate - an average of 381kWh per month. It is convenient for you, in order to give an unrepresentative figure, to take the seasonal weighted figure of 882kWh in January.
Fourthly you ignore discounts.
I said above, that as he has gas CH he will greatly exceed any Tier1 allocation and it is convention to treat that as a Standing Charge(and ignore discounts) in these type of calculations - indeed he might well be paying a daily standing charge on their cheapest tariff.
So 40p for a metric gas unit is an accurate approximation of his charge.
We are trying to help the OP and not try to juggle figures to give the worst possible and unrepresentative scenario.0 -

you are wrong npower do not split there 4572 kwh evenly over the year they charge 882 units a month from 1 November to the last day of February
272 units in March• 46 units a month from 1 May to 30 September
• 271 units in April and in October

But quoting 'units' just causes confusion, as many people are not aware that there are metric and imperial meters/units.

Where did I say they 'split there(sic) 4572kWh evenly over the year' ?
Did I not mention 'seasonal weighting'? - The term NPower use for uneven allocation of tier1 units.

ok guys a bit of clarification i am on npower go fix 8 with daily charge of 37.40p per day and unit rate 3.185p excl vat
i had a wee look at the old b/gas bill and they have the calculation on it --1 metric unit = 11.05 kw
so in effect todays heating on 2 hours this morning having used 3 units has cost me 37.4p standing charge plus (11.05kw x3) 33.15 x 3.185p =1.05 plus the 37.4p - £1.42 plus vat
am i correct or totally losing the plot now???0
