what year and model is it?

Late 2010 i20. 5 year warranty. Used as a second car, so mostly short in town driving, work commute etc.

You should not have to pay for the clutch at 7,000 miles on a 2010 car

'fair wear and tear' is not a issue here!!!

Internet search reveals that there is numerous clutch problems with this car and I'm sure Hyundai are aware

They are hoping you will just go away

Stick to your guns and if they ignore your claim? employ a solicitor

Any such bad publicity (which has already started on this site) is not in Hyundai's interest!!

Had similar problems on a 2004 Vauxhall Meriva (2nd user, bought with 5000 miles on clock) with 6,000 miles on the clock. Took it in for service to be told that it needed a new steering column and the brakes were all pitted. Had only had the car a month  and had taken the extra cover on it. The main dealers weren't very forth coming, until I got to speak to the manager, who in turn spoke to Vauxhall on my behalf. Vauxhall agreed to do the work under the warranty :T Which was a huge relief. Maybe taking it to another dealer and getting them to speak to hyunai with regards to this?

Good example above - brake pads wear, brake disks shouldn't really but do and can. I'd put either of those down as wear and tear, and wouldn't chase a dealer for free work on them at any mileage. A steering column is not wear and tear though, and should last, let's say, 100,000+ miles. A clutch does wear, and will need replacement/adjustment at some point, but nowhere near 7,000 miles or 2 years old. Even without the 5 year warranty thing, the clutch is not fit for purpose, and has not lasted a reasonable amount of time in my opinion.

yeah but it wasn't wear on the brakes. They reckoned it was pitting because the steering column was doing something weird with the wheels causing the brakes to pit. I have no clue as I'm not a mechanic. I can only go by what they told my poor old dad when they wanted him to pay the huge bill after having only just bought the car. Hence why vauxhall agreed to the replacement. The dealer wanted to put the whole lot down to wear and tear. It was only the questioning that and that the car should have been fully checked before selling it to us (think my old dad had only done about 1k miles, if that) that made them think again I believe.

Brake discs become pitted with rust from the car sitting around and not being used

well maybe it was while it was sitting on their forecourt....As I said, I dunno why they done it under warranty, can only go by what they told me, but how many of us wouldn't have complained a month after buying a 6 month old car (5k) to have the problems listed. I'm sure glad I complained. My poor old dad was gonna throw a right hissy fit :rotfl:

Yes this car has done some serious sitting around unused!

Brake disc pitting is a common problem in very low mileage cars as the surface rust on the disc never gets rubbed of

oops I didn't mention that. Assumed it would be known given age of the car, I do apologise :rotfl:
