Don't do energy calculations in £. No good ever comes of it.shrewandroo wrote: »No nothing other than cooker and dishwasher!
Have just calculated how much leaving all the lights on in the house for 1 hour a day every day for 6 months, using 100W bulbs (have mainly energy saving but doing worst case scenario) and it should have cost no more than £13 on my tariff, so really don't know what it could be. Very odd:(
Say 8 bulbs @ 100W for 1 hour/day. 0.8kWh/day.
For 180 days. That is 144 kWh, which more than accounts for your readings.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
but the lights would have been off the majority of the time DV .....0

DVardysShadow wrote: »No it is not! Careful with your terminology. The unit you buy is a kWh [kiloWatt hour], not a kW.
106 kWh over 6 months is approximately 25Watts. About 600Wh or 0.6kWh/day. If the central heating runs at 300W, that is about 2hours/day of pumps and fans etc running continuously. So if the boiler and pump run for 50% of the time on, maybe 4h use every day will account for the meter reading.
Of course a lot depends on the exact loadings of the pump and the boiler.
OK forgot hours on overall consumption but still 25 watts an hour used . The control system will be drawing some power power when the heating is not on I think mine is about 7watts so that would account for some of the usage.0 -

Thats my point..........the lights should not have been on at all apart from estate agent viewings which totalled 10 in the 6 months. The heating was only on a couple of times for a couple of hours, run by a 3 year old condensing boiler. The property has been completely empty for the 6 months.
So I don't believe that usage of 106 units is acceptable, and is very odd.
Will be talking to EA on monday to try and shed more light on this.0 -
Sooo.............have trawled through all old monthly bills online, and it looks like the way Scottishpower have billed me has caused credits on some bills and debits on others..........changed tariff in July which obviously caused lots of confusion to them!! So it seems to balance out overall, and the £40 is an account adjustment based on inaccurate estimated readings from the beginning of last year amongst other things, don't really understand, and meter readings seem really odd.... but it now looks like only 5 units were actually used between July and now which is much more likely.
A bit disappointed as had visions of a struggling EA squatting in my house
!! So not really a mystery, sorry to disappoint those who were waiting with baited breath!! 0 -

Just a small point I thought you said you took the readings yourself and you used 106 units.0 -

I did and on my most recent bill that is what it showed, however, on looking back at all other bills, Scottish Power seem to have juggled all the meter readings around..........who knows why, and there was a bill online dated 1 day before which showed the 5 unit increase with a starting credit of £57 whereas the one I had in the post, had a starting credit of £97. ........?Either way the figures all balance out now.
And Clutton, I LOVE it when people say 'I told you so';)0
