Speak to the agent, perhaps they accidentally left them on once. It's not a massive bill though.

    Costing £40........its a 2 bed terrace, not a mansion!

Is there a washing machine/tumble drier? Might someone have made use of it/them?

This is because it is a low number of units on a 'no standing charge' tariff.

Heating system, although gas, will run at about 300W of electricity - so about 1.8kWh for running 6 hours.

106 kilowatts over 6 months is about 25 watts an hour any idea how much the central heating control system will use.

No nothing other than cooker and dishwasher!

Have just calculated how much leaving all the lights on in the house for 1 hour a day every day for 6 months, using 100W bulbs (have mainly energy saving but doing worst case scenario) and it should have cost no more than £13 on my tariff, so really don't know what it could be. Very odd:(
  • To put it in perspective, our normal monthly electricity useage when fully occupied with appliances etc was less that £25 per month!
  • Will you please come back to this thread if and when you have discovered what this mystery is? I really need to know. If you go to the house turn the thermo down to about 5 degrees centigrade.

i thought i had no standing charge on one of my properties until the company relaid out their bills and i discoverd there had always been a standing charge on a daily basis.. as someone else said, if you have no standing charge the kilowatt hour charge will be upped to compensate the utility company for that... i still think it is acceptable for 6 months...

you could always ask for your meter to be validated by the utility if you want to spend more time on this ....

Will do! Thermostat is on 5 deg now and has been for the last 2 weeks.
  • If the heating has been on and you have quite an old central heating pump then they use quite a bit of leccy. An older Pump uses the same amount of electricity as a fridge.

No it is not! Careful with your terminology. The unit you buy is a kWh [kiloWatt hour], not a kW.

106 kWh over 6 months is approximately 25Watts. About 600Wh or 0.6kWh/day. If the central heating runs at 300W, that is about 2hours/day of pumps and fans etc running continuously. So if the boiler and pump run for 50% of the time on, maybe 4h use every day will account for the meter reading.

Of course a lot depends on the exact loadings of the pump and the boiler.
