I got Platinum at 7.9% APR....only had a years worth of 'o's (green zeros on credit file that shows I've paid on time)....well made up as the APR is so low!

but doesnt me having 2 iphone contracts and 1 ipad and a mortgage seen as a positive?

Phone contracts are a small positive - you can't spend them in shops, so they only give you a small number of points in most lenders books.

Mortgage is secured on your property, so they know you'll try desperately not to default on that.

An unsecured credit card which you can spend anywhere you like (more of less) is significantly riskier to offer than any of the above.

You should try applying for a card that is easier to get and doesn't require existing proof of credit management.

    Im 40 years old.

The iphones are on contract and both have 9 months remaining. They show up on my EXP credit report.

Now that i have thoroughly checked it seems i have 2 missed payments with santander . The bank account is still active but i dont use it anymore, but the MP where 8 months ago.

Does that still make a difference

    What card would that be?

Ideally i wanted to get a tesco credit card but do you think that'll be a longshot?

Its not some sort of keying error is it? Was it done in branch, online or telephone?

Does seem strange based on the information you have provided.

    it was done online.

Barclaycard require no missed payments in last 12 months for their gold card which it says is for people with average credit rating. It says no missed payments but doesn't specify a time period for platinum. The missed payments would be reason to decline

I'd say if Barclays have rejected you, Tesco definitely will.

Plus they'll see the 'Credit Card' search on your credit report, so they'll know your hunting for a card, and if theres more than a couple of those, hunting for credit. Too many and you'll be classified as 'desperate for credit'.

Can you recommend what i can do now? because having a credit card now would be ideal.

ps - is postoffice any good?

    Cheers

have you tried using the barclay card pre application check , to see which card you really qualify for. The check leaves no search print on your credit file
