Barclays Credit Card rejected me :(

Options
Hi i applied for a barclays credit card and it refused me! I have a Experian score of 970 which is excellent. Why would they reject me?

Some stats:
3 - mobile/ipad contracts
No loans
No credit cards
Mortgage with outstanding £55000
small overdraft which i never use
Currently a barclays current account customer
Income of £20000
on the electoral role
lived at property for 10 years
full time job and been there 1 year 1 month

I dont know why barclays refused me? and they just told me to check credit report which is excellent.

Thanks

Please don't rely on the score that means nothing.

If you can't see anything on experian it may mean you need to get your £2 report from the other two agencies to check there is nothing else on any of your other files?

Yes, Barclaycard search Equifax, rarely experian but always equifax.

You say you have no loans or credit cards. This could be the reason for the decline. If you never held any then you don't have enough credit history for them to assess your risk.

If you've had loans / credit cards in recent years but since closed and settled them they may decline you not because of your risk, but because you don't appear profitable.

I, too, have been declined for a Barclaycard with a flawless (and I mean flawless Equifax file, with low debt levels and history with a variety of accounts (cards, loans, etc) dating back many years - however at the time I was declined I owed £0 on my credit cards and had been clearing them in full each month for the prior 12 months.

They don't want customers who won't earn them interest.

Its not some sort of keying error is it? Was it done in branch, online or telephone?

Does seem strange based on the information you have provided.

Says on their website that platinum is for people with 4 years well run store or credit cards, loan, overdraft or mortgage. I see you have mortgage and o/d but no loans or cards. Perhaps their scorecard requires previous experience with revolving credit (cards)

Banks, can I just ask how old you are.

I'm guessing if you are younger the banks see you as a risk and may not want to lend,
