I don't see how rental can be guaranteed - rather like investment returns - and I see that as being a potential problem for the debenture route, i.e. the coupon payments must be met regardless of whether the vehicle is hired out, whereas an owned vehicle that is not rented out just means reduced income for both the owner and the company through which the hiring takes place. But ownership does also mean maintenance, and another factor might also be how much personal use is wanted.

Perhaps I'm biased, though. I was more of a 'tent and beans-eaten-from-the-tin' type of festival go-er....
Living for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

  • I cannot comment on the previous threads, however I have had experience of the hiring out my motorhome through a motorhome hire agent.

We have managed 14 weeks occupancy (2011) and received £5197 after commission and insurance.

We paid £25,000 second hand for the motorhome at the start of 2011. We have just sold the motorhome for £24,500

We will be buying another one this year to do the same thing...

The motorhome hire agency we use is Lazee Dayz

I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

This might be less difficult to believe if you were not a first poster.
I have been a keen motorhomer and user of motorhome internet forums for over 8 years. Being retired it is my main occupation, either motorhoming or reading the forums. In all that time I have never heard a motorhome hire story anywhere near as favourable as yours from a regular poster, or from anyone I have met.

The motorhome rampers aren't just first posters, they are also "never post againers".

I think I will stick to investing in Ostrich farms, landbanking and fine wine.

Interesting. We have some friends who *have* invested in this. Pretty sure (from their description!) it is http://www.motorhomesdirect.co.uk/investment-opportunity/
I do know they have started receiving their monthly payments......I hope for their sakes it is genuine and works out okay!
I tend to be of the view that they may end up owning a ~£20k motor home at the end of it, but who knows!
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!

Worth noting that I do think that this business has a future and this investment may make sense for those who are suitably wealthy. I think they are in a growth market given event and other hire opportunities. But I'd want to do a lot more due diligence from things like company reports and visiting before investing.

At the same time, if I were to mortgage my house (worth c.£600k) for its full value, there’s a 50/50 chance the value will rise.

If I’m to ‘mortgage’ a motorhome, there’s a 100% chance that the value will go down, surely?!

I’ve driven company/hire cars before now, and trust me, they weren’t as looked after as my own car is!
