I'm really pleased neutered cats are allowed to take part, good luck.0

So, the two Bengals, Spot and Lula, have been cleaned, groomed and beautified (much to their disgust!) and tomorrow bright and early (or rather dark and early :rotfl:) we shall be heading off to Warwickshire to the first show of 2012 and the first time I have taken them both to a show together!
It is the Shorthair Cat Society show at Stoneleigh, so pop along if you're in the area and love cats! It will be open to the public from about 12:30-ish and only costs a pound or two admission!
i just wondered if you get money as prizes or just cups etc?...
and do they have a cat equivilent of crufts?
also do you get people trying to ruin yours cats chances such as putting something sticky on their fur.
i once saw a show about vegetables and they got up to all sorts of dirty tricks.0 -
Best of luck Fridaycat. Pictures, pictures, pictures!!! :jRuaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x
If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.
I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them0 -

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. I will post pics soon, but I am v. tired, having got up at 4:15 am (and not sleeping v well as I knew I was getting up so early).
In answer to your questions, winterwhite: You generally get cat food (Royal Canin wet & dry usually) as prizes, though shows do vary and some are more generous than others, some offer cat toys, trophies, crystal, etc. The prizes are usually for Best in Show level. Some special classes sometimes have cash prizes.
Yes - there is a cat equivalent of crufts, it is called the Supreme cat show and takes place each November in the NEC. My Lula went to the last one and came first in her breed class and 3rd in a Special Kitten Class (so won £20).
I have never seen any ... erm ... cattiness between exhibitors at cat shows (not saying it doesn't happen though!). So no tactics such as those you describe! In fact, I have only ever come across really nice people at the shows I've been to0 -
Oh, and by the way, this is how Spot and Lula did today! :rotfl:
Both won their breed class and both won Best of Breed (they are in separate breed classes as Lula is a blue-eyed snow spotted Bengal and Spot is a brown spotted).
In their misc classes - Lula and Spot were in one class against each other and 4 other cats. Lula won this and Spot came third.
In Lula's other misc classes, she got a first and a third.
In Spot's other misc classes, he got a second and was not placed in the other (i.e. not in top 3).
Spot was being quite naughty today and quite vocal to the judges, so I don't think he did himself any favours.
But I am very proud of them both, some good results.0 -

Photos are being uploaded to Photobucket as we speak...
But if you look at the GCCF website: http://www.gccfcats.org/showsnew.html
You can see the list of shows. Not sure how far you want to travel, but there is one in Weston Super Mare soon, a couple coming up in Reading and in early March there is one in Southampton - the Wessex cat club.
Usually, unless they are specific breed shows (e.g. Bengal & Ocicat Cat Club Show), they will have many different breeds there, but you can see exactly what breeds are to be shown by clicking on the "Schedule" link under the name of the show on the page I copied above.0
