Surely better for people to use the MSE referral link found on this page so the site gets the benefit of referrals rather than an individual. Using MSE referral links helps keep the site going and free to use by all!0 -

The headphone socket on my screen has some background hiss too and the equaliser settings (other than "off") turn off sound for DVDs. I tried an audio cd last night and the various settings worked for that.
In case it's of interest to anyone I noticed the volume control on the right hand side of the player affects the volume from the monitor too ( I thought it might just be for player's h/phone socket). So if the sound from the monitor is a very quiet even when turned right up (on the screen) check the player's volume control is not turned down.0 -
Oh flip...missed it!
The kids would have loved one of these........0 -

Maybe try ringing some stores near you in case they still have them. Maplin site has a store locator page and gives stores geographical phone numbers.0 -
Thanks for the reply onzey.
My local store still had a few in stock so they were really great and exchanged it. Although the new one still has a bit of hiss, I could be imagining it but it doesn't seem anywhere near as bad. Also no dead pixel now :-)0 -

How do you find the sound through the headphone socket on the screen?
There seems to be a lot of background hiss on ours. It's not too important as we can use the headphone socket on the DVD player itself which sounds fine, just a bit annoying as you can't then use the volume control on the front of the screen. The cables linking the DVD to the screen seem a bit flimsy so I wonder if that's the problem.
Also there is an option in the sound settings under Equaliser that lets you choose Rock, Pop etc. Doubt I'd use it, but setting it to anything other than Off stops the sound playing.
Other than that and 1 dead pixel, a great buy thanks.
One is a software volume control on the DivX Player: a computer running Linux on a SOC (system on a chip). the screen has a built in amp.
To get the best sound
1. turn the player volume to ful (use the remote)
2. turn the screen volume to min.
3. Plug in the phones to the screen and turn up the volume
I think the sound processing may use the 5.1 encoder which may not work with headphones. There may be an option for effects on headphones try looking under the audio menu.Seth.0 -

If I plug in a camcorder or use a 4:3 ratio DVD (home recorded), it seems you get widescreen regardless of any screen display setting you choose in setup. Not too happy with this so may take this unit back and try and get a refund
Does anyone know if this is true of similar type units or maybe do you just have to pay a lot more to get one that can handle aspect ratios better?
Thanks.0 -
Got mine today (great piece of kit for the price) Can anyone post thier setup on the player and the screen? i.e brightness ,tint , contrast, gamma settings etc , i`m forever fiddling with these to try and get the best picture. Also today im setting this up in the kitchen with a video sender from the sky box in our bedroom :-)0
