    Hi

I always use Delia's conversion tables here

Hope that helps, let us know how they turn out!

Thanks, that's very helpful. I got a whole pack of butter into my cup measure which is 50g too much according to Delia, so that would explain the greasiness as I used one and a half cups in the recipe.
  • I believe a cup is 8oz?

Yes a cup of butter is 8 oz of butter.
    Half a cup = 4 oz
    A quarter of a cup = 2 oz
    A third of a cup = 2.6 oz

However a cup measures 8 fluid ounces. A cup of oats is a lot lighter than a cup of sugar.
  • I'm baking some cakes that come from an American recipe, and need some help with the conversion.

I need to convert the US 'Cups' to UK 'Grams' to make it easier for me to follow correctly.

I've tried looking online for a reliable conversion but alas every website says something different!

Does anyone have any idea of the correct measurement conversions??

    Thanks in advance xx

It's not possible to convert from cups to grammes, A cup of flour will have a different weight to a cup of sugar, for example.

It's best to stick to volume if you're following a recipe. An American cup is half an American pint: so that's 8 fluid ounces (not 10 like an Imperial half pint)
  • I'm working with dry ingredients, so this is a bit of a pain in the !!! - I needed to know, as the recipe gives some ingredients in terms of cups, and them some ingredients in terms of lbs. So I assumed it would be possible to convert to grams, seeing as the ingredients were dry.

    Argh! So confused!

No, it's not possible to do what you're hoping to do, alas. Do you have one of those Pyrex measuring jugs? That's what I use when making anything from an American recipe

As others have said, it depends on what you're measuring as they all weigh different amounts for the same volume. What ingredients do you need to convert?

Here's a few I know from converting my own recipes from cups (which I have) to grams (which I prefer):
Butter, 1c = 225g (this is also equal to two "sticks" of butter)
    Flour, 1c = 150g
    Caster sugar, 1c = 225g
    Cocoa powder, 1c = 100g
