I couldn't have them in bookmarks, not the thousands of them! On a word document I have them neatly indexed under Science, Health, Humour etc etc. Or I'll never find anything, lol.
You can create folders & sub-folders in bookmarks - I even have folders on the Bookmarks toolbar.

    Thanks a million. :)

Oh. Just made IE the default browser and still have the same problem. :(
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • You may still need to follow the 'fix it' instructions in my original MS link..

I'm in there now but at a loss. It tells me what to do if I get an error on a hyperlink in Outlook. I don't have Outlook. It's Word that is giving me problems. Sorry if I seem thick, but as I said I'm not very techie. Perhaps I'd better leave it. :o

The issue is with hyperlinks from any MS Office program, the article is just using Outlook in the example but it applies to Word, Excel etc as well, as it's appears to be a default browser registry change issue.

Forget the importing registry key part, just follow the instructions for your version of IE... e.g.

Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8
    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
    4. Click the Programs tab, and then click Set programs.
    5. Click Set Default Programs.
    6. Click to select Microsoft Outlook, and then click Set this program as default.
    7. Click OK, and then close the Default Programs dialog box.
    8. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Programs tab, and then click Make default under Default web browser.
    9. Click OK
If this still doesn't work you might try the 'fix it for me' download on there.

Hi Q, Happy New Year and long time no type

Outlook by default tends to use Word as it's e-mail editor, which is why instructions like this tend to be interchangeable.

...I use Opera as default and have recently upgraded it so it might be that...

Giving it a quick Google shows others have had this problem with Chrome and Firefox not uninstalling or updating properly. Seems to be it messes up the registry entries that control what happens when you click on hyperlinks.

The solution is to uninstall and then reinstall (Opera in your case). That seems to have fixed it for a few people.

Maybe give that a go if the other things don't work!

[EDIT: I vaguely remember having this problem at work last year sometime and it was something to do with the trusted sites bit of Internet Options. I'll see if I can find the call and see what the actual fix was. I'll post back if I find it.]

Hi Icy and happy new year to you too. :)

I've made IE the default browser (even if I don't use it much), but the problem persist with it too. It's not a major disaster because all it means is that I copy and paste the address, but it just puzzled me. Thanks anyway.

But did you try uninstalling Opera and then reinstalling it?

From what I understand, this issue is caused when an upgrade doesn't quite go to plan and breaks part of Windows. Switching browsers doesn't fix it because Windows itself is broken, hence uninstalling and reinstalling the software that broke it is required to fix it.
