My partner took out the mobile contract listed in the MSE weekly email on the 29th December.

Text from MSE email below:
Up to £800 Tesco Rewards with mobile contract. Get 20,000 Clubcard points when you buy the HTC Wildfire S phone on a £25.54 two-year contract before 2 Jan (£613 over the term). Convert to rewards for up to £800 to spend on days out, restaurants and more. Full info in the Updated Guide: Tesco Points Guide

We got the first T-Mobile bill today to find the actual monthly cost is £30.64 because VAT has been added to the £25.54. This makes the cost over the term £735.36, not such a great deal now!

When we signed up for the contract it was never made clear that the monthly cost was excluding VAT. The checkout documentation does not state this either. The Tesco Phone Shop website does not make it clear that the monthly cost advertised is excluding VAT, on any of the contract phones.

Disappointed the deal was listed on MSE with the wrong costs.

I don't receive weekly e-mails, but in the archive I don't see any links directing to any particular contract on Tesco's website.

All mobile phone contract prices listed at tesco.com include VAT. Only for business contracts price may not include VAT, but AFAIK Tesco don't sell business contracts.

ATM I see four £25.54 contracts, one of which is with 10000 points and one £30.64 contract without points. I guess you've bought a wrong contract.
You should have got the confirmation e-mail. What did it say?

If you can prove that you have bought £25.54 contract from tesco, they must sort this out with t-mobile.

EDIT: I see you mentioned checkout. Was it in a shop? If so, you should have signed some contract at the point of sale.

Thanks for the reply and I'm sure the right mobile contract was purchased.

Links from MSE to the deal are not longer on the MSE Tesco points page because the deal end in early January I imagine. Also deal is no longer live on the Tesco Phone Shop website, but I have a printout of the deal in my basket stating the monthly cost of £25.54 and 20,000 clubcard points. Plus I have a checkout completed printout with the above cost and contract info with order number.

The contract was taken out online, not in store.

Contact Tesco. The price definitely included the VAT.
I guess it was the same deal that is with 10K points now: 600+500+500/Unltd

Yes it was the same deal just with double the points, will call in the morning thanks for your thoughts.

Why do you say it definitely includes VAT, can't find anything on the site to tell me either way?

Have you ever seen anything about VAT included at Tesco? Only for business customers a price without VAT makes sense.
  • Are you sure it's not just that they've billed you for an extended period?

Your first bill will always be higher, as you pay a month in advance, plus the days you've already had the plan for.

Usually bills say clearly both the dates covered and the VAT.

Thank you grumbler and BadgerFace for replying to my post. I have resolved this with Tesco who were very helpful. T-Mobile had charged for the internet data as an extra, instead of including it for free.
  • Hi, I was searching to see who else had bought this phone from Tesco when it was offering the 20,000 points. I was wondering if I was the only one who is having difficulty getting some of the points. I have a printout of my order clearly stating the 20,000 points. When the last lot of vouchers came out in February I was given 10,000 points and since then various Tesco Clubcard staff (I had imagined 'the Clubcard team' sitting in an office somewhere rather than being disparate staff in Call Centres in Cardiff and Dundee, etc.) have promised to sort it out and haven't. I thought I had finally sorted things out when I managed to get an email address and phone number for 2020 Mobile, who seemingly deal with Tesco Phone Shop problems. I scanned all the info to them and it was attached a 'slogger' and sent to Clubcard. Clubcard deny receiving it and claim not to know what a 'slogger' is and the person at 2020 Mobile no longer works there! Back to square one - I was told to copy the info and send it by post (as they can't receive emails from the public) to a named person at Tesco Clubcard. Only problem is that she works in Cardiff and I was told to send the info to Dundee where they would copy it and email it to her and she would manually add the points. I live in hope but have my doubts! Anyone any other ideas or should I just give up and see if I can get Watchdog or a newspaper to take up my case?
