BA to charge extra for more than 1 bag

I beg to differ, as my link to AA shows they offer only 23kg per bag - which is what the BA allowance will be once the transition period is over and which has been the Virgin Atlantic allowance for CC since last June. United Airlines has 23kg per bag for CC folk as does Air France & Air New Zealand,Sam_Bee wrote:That's not at all true. All airlines offer 32kgs if you fly Westwards. BA will continue to offer it as well to those flying to the Caribbean, US.
It's 23kgs elsewhere (i.e. most places they fly to).
In fact for "back of the plane" folk I can't seem to find anyone who offers more than 23kg per bag & 2 bags per passenger when flying Transatlantic0 -

Cant seem to find that on the BA website - the new rules state that all class of cabins will be upto 23kg of each bag which is 3 for First / Club World, 2 for WTP and 1 for Economy.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? So for a while your luggage allowance for flights to the US with AA has been LOWER than with BA. And unless I'm reading it wrong the new rules for BA flights to the US is 2 bags of 23kg each - ie the same as AA
Alan
thank you for pointing out my misconception about the BA baggage allowance to America as compared to AA.
However, I'll still fly AA regardless of the new BA baggage rules, as flying TransAtlantic with AA can be several hundred pounds cheaper than using BA - when going from Manchester and not terminating at a hub.
p.s. a wee while ago you could take 2 x 32 kg bags on AA as well - I think that they changed it in Mid 20060 -
These baggage rules do my head in.
Just back from the USA. There were 3 of us and we had 5 bags to check in. At the checkin desk the agent said 2 cases were over weight and said we'd be charged $100 or could go round the corner buy another bag, take stuff out and put it in the other bags. OH got a decent bag for $30 we shifted stuff about and went back with the 6 bags and everything was fine.
The stupid thing is, we still had the same weight of stuff in total but now it was in 6 bags instead of 5 so they had an extra bag to handle.

This isn't exactly new news, BA annouced the changes MONTHS ago, its just they had to delay it with all the security problems."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Some (or all) of this has to do with the weight of a single item that a baggage handle is able to lift. 'Overweight' bags need to people to carry them - hence the extra handling charge, but if you spread the weight over more bags, yopu don't get stung the same way - as the checkin person kindly told you.

These kind of changes, and also not being able to pick your long haul seat at time of booking, just prompt me to consider more airlines for long haul trips and shop around.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I still dont seem to understand. In the newspaper it said destinations like Canada, USA, Caribeean will be exempt from the new charges?
So what is it that im confused with?
It used to be 32kg and 2 bags?
What is it now? 23kg?

Forgot to say, just back from BA flights to Argentina and we were 18KG over the allowance weight and they said nothing. Couldn't believe it as it worked out to be over £150!
Never ever had a problem with BA and have been very nice infact. Would always choose BA over another airlinne if they flew to the same place.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -

After my experience of flying back from Kenya with them, I would now fly with any other airline except BA.
