BA to charge extra for more than 1 bag

Surely "our favourite airline" can't be serious?

OK - its not all flights but £60 to £240 for more than one bag is taking it a bit too far, don't you think?

No - Most Airlines only allow one check in bag unless you're flying in a Premium Class.
  • It does seem a lot and it's more likely that you will have more then 1 bag if flying long-haul and so get hit the hardest!

i'm flying ba one day after the new rules take force, and i actually went to the airport yesterday to ask how strict they'll be, as i'm travelling with buggies and carseats, as well as bags.

one the phone, i was told the buggy would be free, but i'd probably be charged £120 for the carseat (it's not even worth that much!), at the airport they told me first, that they wouldn't be strictly enforcing the rules in february, as not everyone knows about it yet!

another staff member said if the buggy and carseat were a travelsystem, they'd both count just as a buggy and be free. however, to do this i'd have to take 10kg enormous buggy rather than the 5kg stroller!

so i still don't have a clue as to whether i'll be charged extra or not.

    How much????????????

Might work out cheaper to buy a second seat on the plane and have 2 luggage allowances!
  • I don't think this applies to USA/Canada if you look closely at BA's fine print.
  • Fly with BA and perhaps it is to stop people turning up at the airport with 2 or 3 cases each aswell as a large "carry-on" baggage when only flying economy. I think it is expensive but surely they must recoup their costs from people who do this.

Once again, another reason why I travel with American Airlines over BA.

Current AA allowance - 2 checked bags max weight 23kg each
Current BA allowance - 2 checked bags max weight 32kg each
    New BA rules

So for a while your luggage allowance for flights to the US with AA has been LOWER than with BA. And unless I'm reading it wrong the new rules for BA flights to the US is 2 bags of 23kg each - ie the same as AA

Anyhow in all this panic about "I'm only going to be able to check one bag free", people have missed the really important change - the reduction of allowance from 32kg to 23kg

That's not at all true. All airlines offer 32kgs if you fly Westwards. BA will continue to offer it as well to those flying to the Caribbean, US.

It's 23kgs elsewhere (i.e. most places they fly to).
