I've never heard of anything like this, but we must all remember, we are actually only hearing one side of the story. It is all too easy for someone to make claims of allsorts, and not tell the full story, when the other side does not have an opportunity to respond.

Without wanting to upset the OP, the claimant may have been abusive, ignorant, had a bad attitude for whatever reason, or may have just totally exaggerated what went on. I've known plenty of people over the years who have made a mountain out of a molehill, "for effect" or "to get people on their side" etc...

My son in law is currently on the work program through his local JobCentre, (he is a rare one who actually looks for work)

I was with you up until this....which unfortunately was in the first line. What evidence have you got that says someone attending a work program who is looking for work is rare?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

... his advisor phoned in sick although they waited for him to arrive to tell him ...
... told him that she did not care whether he was ill his wife was ill or his 2 kids are ill, if he doesnt attend 'she' will stop his Jobseekers allowance.
She said she doesnt care if they are in hospital all it takes is a phone call from her and his money will be sanctioned.
The manager 'wasnt in today or the rest of this week' ...
... and when he asked her for his name he was told the manager doesnt deal with 'people like him'.

The usual hypocritical, public sector jobsworths.

Make a formal complaint, or better still, invest in a small covert recording device and capture some of those comments on video.

    Then make a complaint.

Then you've led a very sheltered life and probably been too busy nodding to whatever the Daily Express tells you to have noticed.

Very true. And also all too easy for someone who demonstrates extreme unawareness to dismiss all that is new to them.

And I have known plenty of pompous, self-important posters on this site who ignore whatever they don't want to know in order to castigate the victims of decades of governments running policies of mass unemployment.

The unemployed are a easy target, For the press and the fools in the house who are out to make a name for themselves.

And for the inadequates on this site.
As for your son-in-law treat him to a late Christmas present of USB Memory Stick Digital covert voice recorder. It cost around £14 and when he goes to his next appointment

Coo, live and learn! I didn't know such things existed for so little money. I can think of all sorts of uses for that - I'll get one. :T

For what it's worth OP i would advise your relative to make a formal complaint both with the provider and with the jobcentre itself, for me i am used to being told i can be sanctioned it's part of the game. But when an advisor from a provider threatens to stop you JSA i find that totally unacceptable. I was lucky when i was on steps to work my advisor was understanding should any family circumstance arise.

He called into the JobCentre today to put complaint in writing, they have also noted it on his claim and moved him to a different provider, had loads of complaints about them although it don't seem to have done anything about it.

That would be because an individual JCP doesn't negotiate contracts with the providers, its done at a higher level than that.

The process of ending a providers contract would require more than a few complaints.

    .

But isn't the work programme run by contracted providers from the private sector and some "charitable" organisations? So how does the public sector get the blame?
