OS Daily Wednesday 4th January 2012
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 4th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning all,

Back to work today :(, its been so nice having time off at home with the family, and now back to rushing round like a headless chicken, still needs must.

DD back at college, and oh back at work, he was supposed to go in yesterday but got rained off, good job really, as in the torrential rain, our conservatory sprung several leaks, at one point it was pouring in, I was running round with buckets and a mop  our fence has also come down, well I think it may be the neighbours but its down all the same.

Dinner tonight is chicken curry and rice, quorn curry for dd, I kept some of the veggie sauce from our last takeaway and will mix that in, makes it extra tasty.

OK better get on, have good days all.

BB baby is beautiful xx

Kathy, are you back in france yet ? hope you had a good time with your family xx

  • Morning,

How exciting to be one of the first to post :T

Builder is coming today to do some pointing up and I'm not sure whether I'll need to be around for him. If so, then it will be a day with the chickens and a bit of baking. If not then I'll be off to cinema with SIL and Nephew to see Happy Feet 2.

Yesterday was a lovely day of Monopoly, baking and general fun with the nephew after we fetched six new hens for my flock. I was nervous of introducing them but all has gone well (so far, famous last words etc) and we got 5 eggs yesterday between the originals and the newbies :T.

I made a red lentil dahl in the slow cooker yesterday. Wasn't bad but a bit bland and too wet. More experimenting required I think.

SIL has now had a sweep and if baby hasn't arrived by her own accord by Tuesday then they will induce and I shall be a proud auntie for the 14th time!

I informed work yesterday that I'm now ready to leave work and will be going on sick very soon for the foreseeable future. This was the first step in retiring under ill-health rules and step two is Thursday when I have to go in for a meeting at 3pm. Until then I continue on light duties, and preparing for handover. I'm hoping that I only have 7 working days left.

    So - OS today:
    • Hoovering / sweeping & mopping
    • Washing
    • Dishwasher
    • Poss breadmaking
    • Poss baking orange drizzle loaf
    • Cinema with unlimited card so no cost
    • Windows to be cleaned
    • Slow Cooker to put on
Breakfast - cereal or fruit and yoghurt
Lunch - MrS has leftovers, I will have toast and soup
Dinner - Curry of some sort. Probably slow cooked.

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Less blustery here this morning. DH up and off to work early but not stupid early so he brought me a cuppa in bed. Boys both still in the land of nod, so enjoying the peace. Dinner last night was chicken pie, mash and veg for the menfolk and LO cauli/broc cheese with veg and gravy for me. Remembered to get the meat out of the freezer for tonight's dinner so we will be having lamb casserole, mash and veg. Will need to visit the SM today to buy milk, hoping not to buy anything else until I do a shop on Friday though. Only working until lunchtime today then have a hospital appointment with DS2 to make sure his finger has mended - hopefully he will be discharged. This afternoon and tomorrow will be spent trying to do the washing, drying and ironing, and housework so I don't end up trying to do it over the weekend. Boss emailed me yesterday to advise that I can have the holiday I have requested for week after next, need to get it used up as still have some left but can now carry that forward to next year. Boys back to school on Friday, can't wait to get back to some sort of normality! Got them to bed at a more reasonable hour last night, the continous late nights are starting to show, so tonight and tomorrow they will be in bed at their usual school night time.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Strange weather yesterday. Wind for hours, then wind and rain, then no wind but rain and hail, then very heavy hail, a bit more wind then the sun came out half an hour before it went dark.

I wrote a list of 11 jobs yesterday, got them all done :A I've just written today's list, only 7 items :D

After giving myself an electric shock with the shredder - Rambo Pig decided to have a snack - I've put insulating tape on the wire. I've also filled the holes where I banged nails into the wall and they bent. When I pulled them out, they took a chunk of plaster with them. I'll sand the filled bits flat today and paint them. I know the difference between different types of nails (dad was a carpenter, I knew how to wield a hammer by the time I was five, lol). But I bought a set of various nails and hooks specially for hanging pictures so didn't pay too much attention. They were wood nails - how many people have wooden walls? Don't buy hooks and nails from Ikea, they're useless. I'll be rummaging through the shed today for proper nails.

    Morning All!
JG tell Roo practising all very well - time to move out now! Seriously these days at the end of a pregnancy seem sooo long! Never mind, soon be over now!
RR - hope work goes OK. Don't miss not having to go back now - although I still think in terms of school dates and holidays!
DS up in early hours and is now thinking of returning home this morning. Cooked some left over sausages "they were only 3 days out of date Mum!" Mind they probably wil have been OK as they've been fridged - and clearly smelled and tasted OK. I'd like to think he was getting more OS...but probably not!
Our tree and decs need to come down today - would have left them until tomorrow, but DH is hosting a rotary committee meeting here tonight and I think we need the tree space for an extra chair or two. Means I shall be spending part of the day tidying and dusting - but at least by this evening our downstairs at least will certainly be "company-ready". Bet it takes more than 15 minutes though!
Have a meeting at 11am to fit in as well - so don't know when I'll get to the gym and I 'm determined I'll get there at some point. Food today - soup, cheese and biscuits, and the last of the w/e roast lamb. ( Should have been last evening but needed to change plans when DS decided to stay on!)
Hope you all have a good day today.
    Take care of yourselves.

Morning everyone - hope that the storms have died down now.

No shopping today :j and will lay down my work for a Health Walk at Gibside to help boost my energy levels. It only lasts for an hour so can't be too difficult.

Thoughts to all those who need them - especially, this morning so far, JG for that baby to get a move on!

    Morning All,

Everyone was very tired after their first day back at school/work so early night for us all last night. Although I did watch the Biggest Loser which I love and always inspires me to get on and lose my extra weight.
Will do 30 mins on the Wii this morning:D
Need to get some supplies for Mr T's today. Need some fresh veg as DB and DSIL are coming for tea. We will have Lasagne with salad and garlic bread and jam and coconut cake with custard. Didn't manage to see them over Christmas so will be nice to catch up.
Going to tackle the loft this week and sell/give away or tip anything not coming with us to Oz.
ALso need to post my brothers present to Australia today. Already have quite a few presents for this year:D and if anyone says they are recycled unwanted/needed Christmas gifts I will say they are fibbing:o honestly I do not need any more smellies. Have a full box to use up so won't need to buy any more this year.
Going to sell the bigger car in January as well, costing far too much and will save us a fortune. Will just manage with DH's car until we go and sell that one at the last minute.
Anyway enough waffle, off for a healthy breakfast.
Have a good day all J

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to baby Roo:p come on we can't wait
