The best deal on vitamins is 3 x 79p which, after the 3 for 2, costs £1.58. There's only 3p in it but if your Boots has no cheap vitamins and/or you're only interested in the money saving aspect and not getting vitamins then the Ricolas are a good bet.

For each batch of 6 shots you buy, providing you are going to buy 6 vitamins (or Ricolas) you have £5.97 towards the vitamins and your shopping. This means that as long as you stick to vitamins that are on average under £1.50 each you will make money. You could get 3 vitamins at £2 and 3 at 79p and still make a profit given how Boots calculate their 3for2.

There are few cheap vitamins to choose from though and stocks are low but here's what I've found:

Boots Effervescent Vitamin C 20s (silver/grey tube, white cap) = £2.55
Bassetts on the go Vitamins 15s (silver tube, purple cap) = £2.49
Boots Vitamin & Iron 30s (grey tub, red sticker on cap) = £2.05
Boots Chewable A-Z 3 years+ 30s (grey tub, orange sticker on lid) = £2.05
Boots Evening Primrose Oil 60s (white tub, yellow cap) = £2.05
Boots Odourless Garlic 60s (white tub, blue cap) = £1.59
Boots Iron 60s (grey tub, red sticker on cap) = £1.54
Boots Omega 3 30s (white tub, blue cap) = 99p
Boots Cod Liver Oil 30s (white tub, green cap) = 99p
Boots Multivitamins (white tub, red cap) = 79p
Boots Vitamin C 30s (white tub, orange lid) = 79p

so for 99p vits you get 1p per 3 + £1.99 per 5 so
1p x 5 = £0.05
£1.99 x 3 = £5.97

so £6.02 off your shopping based on "buying" 15 shots

To be in credit when you go to the till you need to have spent less than £6 per 6 vitamins after the 3 for 2. In other words, the Ricolas are the most expensive ones you should be going for if wanting to make a profit. These are £1.45 but on offer at £1.

Anything below £1 or in the case of the Ricolas, even though they are £1, an extra 45p is taken off due to the full price of £1.45 being used in the 3 for 2 calculation!

So for 6 Cod Liver Oils, here is the breakdown:

Shots = 11.94
Vits = 5.94
Free shot = -11.94
342 vits = -1.98
342 shots = -3.98
544 shots = -1.99

Total = -£2.01

And for 15:

Shots = 29.85
Vits = 14.85
Free shot = -29.85
342 vits = -4.95
342 shots = -9.95
544 shots = -5.97

Total = -£6.02

I only saw this as I was on my way out the door for the school run this morning so had a quick read through while waiting in the playground.

Headed straight for Boots after as there were some bits I wanted to get anyway. I bought an Avent baby cup, baby bowl suction pad thing and some 50% off jewellery (should have been £15ish for all that)

Picked up 3x multivitamins (last ones on the shelf), 3x Ricola, and 6x shots and the total came to £12.51 so cheaper than I was going to pay anyway and got loads of vitamins I've been meaning to get anyway!

You have to buy vitamins as well!! Just shots doesnt work!

Buy in quantities of 3, shots and vitamins. The shots are on 3 for 2 but are also free when you buy vitamins. Boots give you the shots free then take you another £1.99 off your bill on the 3 for 2.

If you buy 6 shots they take another £1.99 off because the shots are on 5th one free also
