This is genius, bought a laptop charger for my mum last august with one year warranty. This week, it stopped working all of a sudden and I sent the following email to the seller:
Hi there I bought this item at the end of August and it has now stopped working. I have tested the laptop with another lead and it is fine. The charger is plugged into a surge-protected socket and all other leads plugged in there are fine. I'd therefore like to claim a replacement under the 1 year guarantee you offer.
thanks
and got the following response:
HI
Thanks for your message.
since you have used it for half of year. can you pay us 3GBP and we send you a new one with one year's warranty?
Regards
Lemon

If its £3.00 delivered, then take that option.
Thats £3.00 supplied & delivered, otherwise they could ask you to return the item to them, which could cost more than £3.00 sent via a tracked method.
The faulty charger is no good to them.0 -
So the 1 year warranty I paid for shouldn't just replace the faulty item at no further cost to me?Remember to always be yourself-unless you suck. Joss Whedon0

£3 sounds reasonable to me to cover postage, how much was the original charger?0 -
The seller shouldn't be asking for money to cover a warranty that the OP has payed for.
Having said that, it seems the OP won't be able to win here. Sounds about right for a warranty....0 -
If they dont want the old one back then i would pay it. It will cost a couple of £ to send it back i guess.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Seems like they're being pretty reasonable here. They're offering to send you a new one if you cover the postage. I don't think thats so unreasonable actually.0

Most warranties aren't worth much and a failure within the warranty period still results in inconvenience and expense...
£3 for a new charger, delivered, with a fresh 1 year warranty... if that is what he is offering, I would take it.0 -
I dont think you get it OP.
They can ask you to return the OLD ITEM to them for testing, this can confirm that it is faulty. This will cost YOU money. If it was local, you could drop it off at the shop. You can only expect them to pay for the return postage if it is listed in the Terms & Conditions at the time of sale.
So, you return the item to them. You have to send it tracked through the post or they could claim that the item did never arrive. So straight away your looking at £2-3 in postage costs, before packaging. You want it to arrive in one-piece for testing so you shall insert it into a padded jacket.
It arrives with them and its confirmed to be faulty, where they supply you with a new one.
Win-Win?
You pay out £3 to return the item to them, where they issue you a new one. Not only have you wasted your time packaging the item up, you have wasted your time taking it to the post office, sending the parcel, waiting for it to arrive, waiting for them to test & post a replacement out. Then it has to get to you.
Have you paid the £3.00 yet?0 -

ok, instead of replying with "f*ck me, that's a good deal. Here's my £3". Just reply with "Thank you, I shall send my £3 immediately"0 -

I agree that it's not worth putting up too much of a fight for the sake of £3, but will just point out that the quote above is incorrect.
Irrespective of what was stated in the sellers T&C's, the SOGA over rides these and this act clearly states that the seller must bear all of the costs involved in replacing or repairing the charger.(3)For the purposes of subsection (1)(b) above goods which do not conform to the contract of sale at any time within the period of six months starting with the date on which the goods were delivered to the buyer must be taken not to have so conformed at that date.
1)If section 48A above applies, the buyer may require the seller—
(a)to repair the goods, or
(b)to replace the goods.
(2)If the buyer requires the seller to repair or replace the goods, the seller must—
(a)repair or, as the case may be, replace the goods within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer;
(b)bear any necessary costs incurred in doing so (including in particular the cost of any labour, materials or postage).0
