Ive been through a thread previously aboutt he issue with the dell laptop.
What I need is something to put on so I can connect to wifi so I can download all the drivers for the laptop. As previously said before I have had to put on Windows XP to get the laptop booted up. There were a number of issues but I could only get the thing to load by installing a version of XP.
Now I need to get all the drivers but cant get onto the net so my option is finding something to dl using my pc and putting onto cd to install that way. then at least I can get all the drivers and updayes sorted and make do with XP.
cheers

Presumably the wired network connection isn't working either due to lack of driver software?
The only other way is to download the required driver software from Dell support using another computer, put the files to USB memory stick or CD and install that way. Some Dells come with a driver CD which I'm assuming you don't have?

We need the Service Tag.
Which version of Windows is indicated on the sticker at the bottom of the laptop? If Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, the disc image is here: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 Media Refresh
Download and save the file to a computer of your choice and when the file has downloaded fully, you can burn the Image to Disc using ImgBurn.download and install ImgBurn(No need to install the Google Toolbar. Remove the relevant tick). Burn the Image to Disc. Use this as a guide(skip step 2b)
Reinstall Windows 7 from boot. Don't try to enter any product key if asked. Just skip that step for the time being. Let me know the Service Tag ASAP as I also need to check that this is the correct version of Windows.0 -

I have a spare wireless USB dongle and drivers on a Mini CD. I have been in this situation many times as I need to connect to the net to download the wired driver for starters. So, I plug in the dongle, load the drivers, connect to the net, download the wired driver, remove the dongle, connect a cable from the router to the computer and then proceed to download all the drivers I need including the inbuilt wireless driver if I'm working on a laptop.0 -

Goto dell support (put in your service tag and it will bring up your model). Choose XP in the drop down and try just the ethernet one (about 23mb so shouldnt take to long). When burnt onto CD, put into dell laptop, install and then you should be able to use a network cable to download the rest directly to the laptop..
i tend to keep a spare USB mem stick just for this purpose (to save burning cd's)0 -
How are you attempting to 'load' the disc? Perhaps you can describe the sequence of events exactly.
Are you suggesting that there is no Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity sticker on the machine?
The system appears to default to a flavour of Vista, not Windows 7.
Let me check for the iBIOS version and the installed licence.
I will send you some diagnostic software via PM.
