They did not completely rectify the situation. They just said it was not there fault.

THe Op may have lost confidence in the pizza hut now as the manger just fobbed him off with a excuse and some thing he can not be 100% sure of. After all one of his staff could have tampered with his food (thats unlikely).

It would have been better if he asked for his name and address and they would get back to them after they have investigated. Which they should do even if the op is not fussed.

I agree they should investigate but it was Pizza Express, not Pizza Hut.

And I imagine they will investigate.

You have to understand though, no restaurant is going to turn round to a customer and say "oh yes, that foreign body definitely came from our kitchen".

They offered you a fair refund of the price you paid for the pizza, had you paid full menu price you would have had that refunded I imagine. Why should you be compensated to a greater extent than someone who didn't have a voucher?

It's an unfortunate incident to occur, but as I said, nobody was hurt, you got a free pizza, where's the problem?

The glass some how got there and pizza express suppliers should be glass free. But as mentioned above mistake do happen occansionly.

Because we ended up paying £2.12 less than we would have done for a meal we didn't eat and didn't enjoy than we would have done if it hadn't happened and we'd eaten the whole lot and had a lovely afternoon

All I got from the OP was that he said it wasn't anything from the kitchen, not that he was refusing to look into the matter.

There will be an internal procedure for investigating incidents such as this and I have no doubt that it will be followed.

I had some glass in a meal in a local pub. It was the heating element in the cooker that had broken. I felt it in my mouth and found another bit on the plate. No harm done. They gave me my meal free. I was with 4 friends so we still split the bill and all saved a bit.

As no harm was done- they apologized and gave me my meal free I felt that was very reasonable. Accidents happen. No need for any other compensation. I suffered no loss or injury.

They may well be following the procedure.
Howere the manager said it was not from his kitchen. From reading the OP message it sounded like he said this while they complained. He did not even go back into the kitchen to check if their had been any issue etc.

if he had said "i doubt its from our kitchen" as opposed "it could not have come from out kitchens" that is very different.

None of that's relevant. OP was refunded the value of the pizza and they accepted the refund.

It does need to be reported and investigated. What if there is a whole batch of them floating around with pieces of glass in them ? They could cause injury to someone.

Absolutely, which is why it will certainly be looked into. Pizza Express don't want to bring their brand into disrepute and the manager won't want to lose his job for allowing people to be injured on food in his restaurant.

How is it not relevant when the OP said they felt the manager thought they did it.

WHile no damage was caused physically. They still may has lost faith in the establishment as not given a satifactory answer. thats for the OP to say if they are going to go back to the same branch.

of course your going accept a refund. Be silly to pay for faulty goods.

By the sounds of it, the OP only ate half his pizza before finding the glass, so hardly a free pizza;) I would have expected a another pizza on the house so I could leave the establishment would the desired effect. Eg full up. :p
