    * SWITCH NOW AND WE WILL GIVE YOU £100

SWITCH NOW AND WE WILL GIVE YOU £100

Our Switching Service makes switching your current account to us easy

Switching to Halifax couldn't be more simple - all you have to do is sign 2 forms and our dedicated Switching Team will do it all for you. We'll transfer all your standing orders, Direct Debits and regular credits to us, saving you both time and effort.

It only takes about four weeks to make the switch, and the service is completely FREE!

All you have to do is... What we do
Complete and sign 2 forms and credit your new current account with £100. 1. Contact your bank for a list of all Direct Debits and standing orders - which is then sent to you to check. We'll also give you an interest* and charge free overdraft for 120 days to cover your outgoings while we switch your account.
    2. Switch your Direct Debits, standing orders and automated credits (like your salary) to your new account.
    3. Once the switch is complete, we'll send you a letter confirming what we've switched. You can keep track of your switch at https://www.halifax.co.uk/online or call 08457 20 30 40**.

    Please note:

    * We rely on the co-operation of the third party organisations you have your Direct Debits with to amend their records accordingly.
    * We rely on the third party organisations you have your Direct Debits with and your previous bank/building society to be prompt. If they do not respond quickly, this could delay the switching process.
    * It is the responsibility of your employer or pension provider to amend their records and pay your salary or pension into your new Halifax account.

*0% for 120 days then typical rate 18.9% EAR (variable) - (If you fund your current account with £1,000 every month lower rates will apply).Overdrafts subject to status and credit approval.

Below are links to the accounts that are eligible for the £100 switching offer, you can find out more and apply online today.

To qualify for the £100 offer you must use our Switching Team to transfer Direct Debits or standing orders from your existing account elsewhere and pay in £1,000 for two consecutive months into your new account. Please read the conditions for the £100 offer below.

Hi. I am currently claiming back my charges from HSBC and because I'm overdrawn and my credit score is, well not good, I have recently opened a 'parachute' account with A&L.

I applied for the 'Premier direct current account' and was accepted, at first. I was told I could not have this account as I was not in credit with HSBC and so I thought I'd be getting/given the 'Premier current account'. This is because it is the only other account they advertise on their site under Current Accounts relevant to me.

Now I'm all set up with them I learn I have the most basic current account possible with no overdraft allowed, at all, and I have already gone overdrawn due to in-goings and outgoings having not caught up yet...

I am a single mum aged 33 and studying full-time with Open University and my queries are; Are there any bank accounts that include Open University students in their student account offers? and can I shut down my A&L account so soon without further damaging my credit rating etc?

Please can you help/advise me? Many thanks...

Hello - first posting, hopefully it's in approximately the right place...
I'm looking at opening a flexaccount current account with nationwide because they offer preferential interest and various other bells and whistles. However they list a range of bank charges as 'Services' they provide, eg. £30 for unpaid item due to insufficient funds and £21.50 for cheques guaranteed - insufficient cleared funds. I thought these charges were illegal and reclaimable...? The bloke in their call centre couldn't answer when I asked him about it. He said 'open the account and see whether you like it'. Great advice. Any thoughts or advice you can offer me?
    thanks v much

do have a enrollment letter from OU ? you could try opening an student account most banks dont accept OU as student accounts but if you're studying for a qualifying degree they could open an account for you

I switched my current account to Halifax to get the high interest.

It took four months to complete, with hours on the phone and in branches to make it happen.

I have also just discovered that they charge £1.50 for every time you use the debit card abroad; both when shopping and getting cash out. Barclays never charged anything at all for spending abroad (only for getting cash out).

I travel abroad a fair amount, so will now have to walk around with lots of cash on me if I don't want the benefit of the high interest to be wiped out by their charges!

What other way is there to avoid the charges when abroad?

I'm sure i read on another thread that nationwide are one of the only ones who dont charge for abroad withdrawals or transactions.

Go back to the budgeting and current account threads and look at the thread for using Halifax card abroad, i think people gave some good suggestions/info on that regarding using cards abroad.

    Good luck

    S.

I have just read on another thread on the budgeting and current accts about someone with, i think, a similiar problem. Have a look at the threads for the using halifax card in Canada. I think there was some good info on that relating to using cards abroad and charges relating to them. I'm sure it mentioned Nationwide as being one of the only ones to not charge abroad. But just check the thread.....

    Good luck:D
