Nappy rash is caused when a baby is left in a soiled nappy for a lengthy time or not cleaned properly. Faeces reacts with urine to create ammonia which will inflame the babies skin and cause sores.

I'm on kid number 3 and i've only ever had nappy rash happen once - that was when babe 2 did a silent poop and I never knew it existed till I went to do the routine bum change half an hour later. I felt so awful I still remember it now even though he was unphased.

The wipes you use don't matter, however the nappies do. Having a good quality absorbent nappy and a layer of barrier cream should always keep baby free from rash. Price does not always indicate a good nappy. I love Boots and Tesco's own brand!

I also agree about Huggies.. I LOVED them but they was a nightmare to get out of the packet.. they were always so wet you'd endup putting your finger through 30 to get one out too!! Also, did you ever try to wipe a stain out of dark clothing using one? I look like i'd been humped by a cotton wool ball.

And as a last note, i've never warmed up babies feeds and they never cared. If you can, try to feed at room temperature and then you save an extra stress. The idea of making up bottles of boiled water is a great one. We used to do this and keep them by the kettle, all with lids on and sterile. We'd do 6 to see us through the day then whack them all in the microwave steriliser at night and refill for the night.

A microwave steriliser was the best thing I EVER bought. 3 minutes and a bottle full of water to get 5 bottles done at once!
(just bolding for those wanting purchase tips)

I'm breastfeeding number 3 so i've not had to use any bottle paraphenalia and it's been amazing, hard work but so rewarding.

Are you SERIOUS? You clean your babies tongue?
And I do hope it's with a seperate cloth from wiping your babies bum..

.. that last bit was a joke.. but really.. cleaning a babies tongue. Bananas!!

haha of course i am using a separate cloth :)

i dun know but my mum been telling me not to have any/ much white milk residue on baby tongue, as sooner or later the baby will be ill

old wives tales i suppose but it doesnt really do any harm, and my little one been quite lucky on his first year i suppose, no serious illness /infection

I think you mean THIS year, I'm the same still saying next year lol, makes it so much more real to say 'I'm having a baby this year'

As for your question, I'd go for nappies and wipes, I never had a bottle warmer for my DD but I've got one for this one. Thing is with my DD I did it all the way they tell to do it 'freshly boiled water cooled then add milk and use within an hour' but this time I'm going to pour boiled water into the bottles and let it cool/stand all day until I need it, then warm it in the warmer and add milk. Reason I want to do it this way is because it is a lot quicker to warm it up than cool it down.

Oh and as for nappies, you cant go wrong with a couple of boxes in each newborn size, even larger babies usually fit into the smallest ones at first, but for how long is anyones guess. You use about 8-10 nappies a day with newborns.

When I had DS1 a couple of years ago it was fine to sterilise bottles, fill with freshly boiled water, store in the fridge for max 24 hours then remove bottle, heat then add powder. All that's a big no-no now apparently. This time around it's sterilise, store empty in fridge for max 24 hours, fill with fresh or up to 30min old boiling water, add powder then cool. Something to do with e-coli I think the midwife said.

Right away to see how many wipes & nappies I can get this time around. My stock from the last glitch has gone for the nappies and is almost gone for the wipes  Was in a cold sweat about having to buy them in the supermarket!

Well credit to you for obviously wanting to take such good care of your baby :A

I did wash my babies tongue once.. he was too impatient to wait for a feed and sucked my black wool jumper.. his tongue was disgusting!

I was trying it on nappies too - looking back at the posts it seems it doesn't work on nappies but does on wipes, haven't tried it on anything else.

Still debating whether to go for this. The code will work on wipes but not nappies as posted above. Looking through my order history, I got 6 boxes of 9 * 56 wipes for £25.97 or 0.9p per wipe back in July. This glitch would make it 1.1p per wipe. Doesn't sound like much of a difference but every little helps eh?

Long story short: July was roughly £26, January for double the amount would cost £68.
