if they do start doing that I'll be advising those posting to take their complaints to the FOS.

I agree that might be required if there was a precipitate withdrawal of the £100 from an account, possibly with consequencies, then a FOS referal (on the manner of the withdrawal) might arise.

Hovever regarding whether the offer is contingent on "salary" being transferred across, the T&Cs are not in accordance with the offer preamble, which includes this phrase "you must transfer all your regular payments and credits across from your existing account using our Switching team". One of the more unambiguous phrases in this sorry tale.

An FOS adjudication is not a judicial determination solely on points of law or interpretation of Terms and Conditions. The objective is a "reasonable" adjudication taking account of all relevant factors. Without prejudice to the FOS process, I am confident that the offer "preamble" phrase quoted is relevant to and could influence the outcome.

and they will fail in those complaints, simple as.
My belief is that the complaints wouldn't get as far as the Ombudsman.
So far ive withdrawn 7 i think £100 incentives that shouldnt have been paid, each time the customer lied to the interviewing staff member.
Could you give some examples of the "lies" told? Simply agreeing to transfer salary and then not doing so?...or something more sinister?

How long has this incentive been running now? If you're pulling incentive payments back you haven't been allowing long for salary/benefits changes to be made have you?

And finally, when you say "I work for the Halifax but any comments i make are purely my own views and are not sanctioned by or represent Halifax", would you say you're expressing an opinion on these threads or representing Halifax?

They want to see your salary paid into the account, and if they don't see it, the account quality team will remove the £5 from your account ;)
It's going to be carnage then. So much for banks competing for customers.

They might do themselves less damage if they just drop the £5 and pay interest instead. Something like 4% on balances between £5-7K would be very acceptable.

I hope Halifax have recorded these interviews, I wouldn't want customers accused of lying putting in complaints!

Something else not identified in the T's&C's (and also not said in at least one interview)
  • the ones ive withdrawn so far have all been when the other banks have sent notice that there are no direct debits or standing orders on the account to be transfered, despite the customer claiming 2 or more.

Shouldn't you then check back with the customer, rather than unilaterally believe the bank they are leaving? Banks can get things wrong, you know.
I think there's probably a few threads on this forum detailing that. ;)

As a fellow bank employee (albeit of a different institution), I'd be careful here mate, you're getting onto dodgy ground.

Also a minimum transaction amount will be placed on reward account at the end of 2012 to stop people being able to claim the £5 without having main banking with Halifax.

If this happens then I'll simply close my Halifax current and savings accounts as I don't really like the CS or OLB. The £5 is the only reason I'm leaving my savings in the Halifax.

In that case I'll just split the salary payments between Halifax and my main bank as we have the facility to do that at work if we want. Then when my salary credit of £1,000 a month hits halifax, move it out by standing order to my main account as it earns no interest there. :T

To get round the minimum transactions you could just set up a few standing orders to move money to and from other banks at different times during the month.

Messy but at least you still get your free fiver :rotfl:
  • And if it requires debit card transactions you could just do several £1 ones to something like the YBS internet saver.
